Huntley, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The earliest settlers in Huntley were farmers and their families who arrived around 1839. They began to grow corn and other crops and built a few homes until 1840 when they started to build sawmills which produced lumber for local businesses. In 1851, General James Hays purchased the land from the original owners and began developing it into a town. He founded what is now Huntley Academy in 1857 as a school for boys and girls. The first post office was established in 1861. In 1863, Huntley became connected with Midway on the Northwest Side through annexation by Midway Township. By 1865, Huntley had two hotels- one called the Ottawa Hotel and another called the Northwestern Hotel- both of which are still standing today along with many other buildings including churches, stores and residences that have been preserved over time. By 1870, Huntley had over 50 residents with six schools providing education to students from kindergarten through high school service academies (now known as community colleges). A railroad station was constructed within minutes of town center by running track off of an existing stagecoach line service between Chicago and Rockford; this made transportation much easier for people living outside of town without having to rely on traveling long distances or waiting long periods for trains to come back into town again

Huntley was founded by John Hunt in 1848 and became a city in 1893. Huntley is located on the north side of Cook County, about west of downtown Chicago and east of Joliet. The village had a total population of 2,499 as of the 2010 census. The town boundaries were extended to include parts of Will County in 1896 and to encompass most of West Side Highway (I-94) in 1998. John Hunt first settled what is now Huntley on land he owned east of present-day Joliet in 1848 after moving from New England with his family following the Napoleonic Wars. He named the community after himself, although other sources attribute its early development to James Hutton who bought some farmland near what is now known as Park Forest and built a home there around 1851. In 1863, when Illinois became a state, Huntley's residents voted to incorporate as a city under the name "Huntley." In 1893–1894, after years spent looking for an appropriate site for their new city Limits Park – which would become one of Chicagoland's greatest tourist attractions – Mayor George Ryan selected Huntleyside Avenue as its location on due south sectional lines between Jackson Heights and Elmhurst (in Jackson Heights), across from Dearborn Street Station on Chicago's elevated train system (then called "The Loop"). That same year saw heavy industry come to Huntsville with major investments by Andrew Mellon and J[ohn] B[enjamin] Pullman; this led to increased traffic along I-294 and it was not until 1949 that rebuilt portions Interstate 94 came into use nearby including access from Huntleyside Avenue through new lanes just south of current I-294 southwest cornerage with Old State Road (now North Lawndale Boulevard).
