Huntley is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. It is located in the northwest corner of the state, adjacent to Champaign and Urbana. Huntley is home to the Huntley-Harrison School District, which serves students from prekindergarten through grade 12. The population was 8,574 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Huntley was Noah Webster who Bowman erected his house on a hill overlooking the town on October 25, 1837. A post office called Huntley was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store built in Huntley was an express store started by Hiram Dodge and operated for three years before being closed by him. In 1851, John Waddell opened a grocery store and became the town's first mayor. In 1865, Roy Ewing founded what would become known as Ewing's Mills that turned out flour for local markets and export to Europe. This mill served as the nucleus of most of Huntley's economic growth until it closed its doors in 1958 due to competition from other producers statewide. A large fire destroyed much of downtown Huntsville on December 3rd 1899 which reduced populations around town somewhat but did not stop business or activity at either store or mill; however people generally avoided downtown because it had been so ravaged by fire The new school district headquarters were built on State Street (now Main Street) between 1908-1910 following efforts spearheaded by then Superintendent Willis Ahearns to move away from schools located just east of Center Avenue where smoke billowed intotown every morning during class times Huntleys post office building still stands today along with many other buildings from that time including: First National Bank (1897), Armour & Drake Hotel (1902), Ford dealership (1907), United States Post Office Building (1908-1960), Mr Haggerty's Restaurant (later known as Griggs' restaurant) (1920). Many residents moved away during Prohibition because alcohol became illegal within Illinois In 1951-1952 there were two general stores operated side by side "Griggs" Store #1 & #2 across Main street near old Ford dealership while Burger King occupied space next door across State street also now used for storage when burger king moved out circa1970s etc... until finally old Hoffman Hardware building burned down leaving only frame remaining with all windows boarded up except one which housed a garage inside which continued to be used until 2004 when it caught fire again preventing any damage done although some extensive damage occurred Huntleys original High School mascot was "Redhawks" but this changed to "Huntlers" after students at nearby Urbana High School approached Principals about adopting their mascot; this change formalized on September 15th 1956 when both high schools merged into one entity under one name becoming Urbana-Huntley High School

Huntley is a small town in central Illinois, United States. It was established in 1853 by John Hunt and his family. The population was 902 at the 2010 census. The community is located on the banks of the Kankakee River, about 20 miles (32 km) south of Chicago. Huntley is named after John Hunt's father, who also founded nearby Groveland. The first residents of Huntley were John and Rebecca Hunt, their two children, and one servant. In 1854, they built a log cabin on the edge of what is now the village square. They raised chickens and pigs, but did not grow crops because they could not afford to do so. That year, they also built a school house which served as both their home and office until 1895 when it burned down. A new school was built in 1900-01 and again in 1903-04; however, it too burned down within six years. In 1857-58, Jno Bickford donated land to make way for a Methodist church which soon became successful enough to build a second church on that property in 1862-63; this second church remains standing today (the current Catholic Church building was completed in 1968). In 1865-66 Thomas Hines donated $100 towards construction of a road from Carbondale to Mundelein; this road still exists today as State Route 149 (or "Hine Road"). On October 6th 1865–Annie Ewing married George Prentice here at thier farmstead just east of what is now Main Street/Route 149 intersection….On November 10th 1865–John Prentice married Elizabeth Stevenson here at his home east of Main Street/Route 149 intersection….At some point between 1870s & 1880s Sarah Laughlin married David Stephenson here or thereabouts….. around 1890s Revd Elijah McKenzie purchased much of these lots & moved into it.– “Huntley” means place where broad beans are found etc., likely meaning corn or other grains.—Today’s village square dates back to c 1830.—The first post office opened near present day High School on April 1st 1872.– Mrs Fenton’s store (& several others) were originally operated by her husband Wm Fenton until he died circa 1907.— A mill originally worked by Mr Bickford ran concurrently with this gristmill but ceased operation circa 1850.— A blacksmith shop operated from 1886 until 1908.—A cotton gin operated from 1896 until 1906.—A small grocery store was open from 1898 until 1904.}
