Huntley was founded in 1846 by Levi Hunt and his family. The first post office was open in Huntley on November 11, 1846. At the time, the town had a population of just four people. By 1860, Huntley had grown to over 100 people and its first school opened on December 1st. The community experienced rapid growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s as new businesses were founded and industry expanded into the area. In 1907, Huntley became one of six towns chosen to be part of the newly formed city of Chicago. This increased its importance as an economic center within Chicago's boundaries and helped it become a major force in local politics and culture during this period. During World War II, Huntley played an important role in helping support the war effort by manufacturing munitions for the military. In 1945, after V-E Day (the end of World War II), Huntley experienced rapid growth as many residents moved to nearby suburbs in search of opportunities to grow food or find work outside of farming varieties solely for military production purposes only two years earlier due to wartime rationing policies that closed down much agricultural production nationwide amidst scarce resources at home from victory over Nazi Germany alone...In 1957–1958 when Interstate 95 was constructed through Cook County betweenChicago/Willis Center and Evanston/Niles Center Cutting Edge Agriculture Products Incorporated established primary land use patterns along I-95 corridor characterized by wide variances in butchery size operations with minimal retail development located adjacent industrial sites having access to interstate highways including I-95
On October 3, 1836, the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill creating what is now Huntley Township. The township was named in honor of Major General James Hunt, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and also helped prevent slavery from spreading to Illinois.
