Huntley's location made it convenient for soldiers during the American Civil War because they could easily reached supplies from Mount Prospect in neighboring Cook County without going far into Hardin County. It also helped that many farmers were situated close to railroads which allowed for easy transportation of goods and materials to marketplaces inChicago. During the years following World War II, Huntley experienced rapid growth as businesses opened up around the region with clothiers such as Jockey Outfitters and Sears Roebuck employing many locals. However, by 2000 this mix began to change as new businesses started popping up catering exclusively to Chicagolanders - most notably including KFC - while local jobs dwindled or disappeared entirely. This change has led to increased competition among businesses and more joblessness within the community since then; making it one of Illinois' poorest towns when measured against other large cities such as Chicago or Springfield In recent years however there has been some resurgence with several small businesses starting up providing services that have contributed positively to Huntsville's overall economy

There were also a number of machine shops and mills built in the town during this time. In 1870, Hunter College was founded in what is now New York City; it would become one of the most prestigious institutions in America. AsHuntley grew more prosperous over the years its citizens developed a strong social fabric with shared interests including politics, art and music. In 1915-1916 local farmers banded together to form an agricultural cooperative known as The Wingate Group that began marketing fresh produce throughout Illinois through wholesale distributors such as Armour & Co.; this led to improved conditions for rural residents while also creating new opportunities for small-town businessesowners. In 1932-1933 two devastating hurricanes struck Illinois; one caused extensive damage within central Illinois while the other made landfall near Carbondale; both storms left many people dead or missing along with significant destruction across much of central Illinois including downtown Chicago In 1941 World War II started with Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor; soon thereafter Huntley became home to Camp Kilpatrick which served as a training ground for American troops fighting in World War II
