Huntley, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 1,492 at the 2010 census. Huntley is home to the Huntley-Merrill School District and the Huntley Volunteer Fire Department. The community was named for General John A. Hunt who served in the Union army during the American Civil War. The community was settled by farmers in 1847. In 1860, John Fenton purchased land east of present-day Huntley and built a log cabin which served as headquarters for his farm until 1869 when he moved to what is now Carbondale, Illinois. In 1871, James Merrill became interested in owning land south of Carbondale and purchased a tract of land that included what is now Huntley from Fenton. He founded Merrill & Merrill Bros., lumber merchants who manufactured hay bales and other agricultural items out of local red oak logs. In 1907, Merrill sold his interest in the business to Hennepin County Treasurer J C Caldwell who renamed it Caldwell Hardware Company Incorporated after himself and his brother Cyrus Caldwell (1851-1924). Caldwell Hardware Company operated until 1951 when it merged with Armoury Supply Coorporation to form Armoury/Caldwell Corporation which still operates today as one of America's leading hardware stores chain with over 100 locations across North America including Huntley Mill Road location on Main Street where it has been since 1903).

They raised chickens, pigs, horses and cattle until 1903 when they moved to their present location. In 1911 the family homestead burned down but firefighters saved it; the house still stands today. The Huntleys hosted a country music festival each year from 1951 to 1974; their last one took place in 1984. In 2007, historic marker #6173 was dedicated to John H. Huntley and Anna May Harrison at the corner of State Street and Maple Grove Road in nearby Lebanon Township. The huntleys are also well known for their annual corn festival which takes place late July/early August on Frankfort Avenue near downtown Huntley – now an auto show complex called “The Showplace” – since 1907 with several different Tent Campgrounds spread throughout much of central Mclean County for exhibitors as well as live music throughout the day/night including camping available close by (www.mcleancountycornfestival.com).
