Today, Huntley boasts a diverse economy including several large grocery stores such as Kroger, Safeway and Walmart; two professional sports teams - the Kane County Cubs (a minor league baseball team) and theIllini Big Ten Football Team; several restaurants including Subway and Pizzeria Panera; three hospitals - Advocate Christ Medical Center (Northwest Side), Illinois Masonic Hospital (South Side) and Rush University Medical Centers; four high schools - North Central High School (Kane County), Southwestern High School (Chicago), Armour Community College District Technical Institute located just east of downtown Huntsville/Huntley on I-74 Industrial Boulevard outside of Aurora Township; two parks - Deer Park Recreation Area to the north side of town off US 622 east of Interstate 74 near Aurora Township border with Aurora Township; industrial areas now make up most oftown limits except portions east or south side which are residential areas According to the 2010 census there are 1,746 people living in 501 households residing within municipal boundaries while 515 residents live outside municipal boundaries: 404 individuals reside inside city limits while 514 individuals reside outside city boundaries

The community has been home to the Huntley School District since 1892. The town was named for John Hunt's father-in-law Samuel H Microtel. Samuel H Microtel was an early settler in the area and part of what is now Huntley Township. In 1847, the village of Huntsville was established about six miles north of Huntley on Hunting Creek. That year, Huntsville also became a post office under the name of Huntsville with a population of just 10 residents. In 1849, after Samuel H Microtel died, his widow Rebecca donated land east of Huntsville for a new township to be organized around her husband's death certificate naming him as its first president and trustee - this would become Huntley Township. At the time it consisted only of their farmsteads which had an estimated valuation at $2 per acre ($100 today). When microfilming began in 1930-1931 Allerton Library microfilm #3236 (dated October 1st 1830), it included images from four different censuses taken during that year including one from Huntley which lists “John hunt” as one of its residents
