Homer Glen is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Homer Glen is named after General George Washington's home in Virginia City, Nevada. The first settlers in the area were farmers and their families who arrived from Connecticut during the 1820s. In 1834, General John Faulds purchased land east of present-day Homer Glen from the Indians for $5 per acre. He established a small community called Fauldsville and laid out streets and built homes. In 1835, he sold additional land to Moses Brownell and others including some located nearpresent-day Elmhurst Cemetery which became known as Brownellsville. In 1847, Major Isaac Bickford purchased a piece of property northeast of Homer Glen from Fauldsville natives Josephine Morrison and her husband Amos Morrison for $6 per acre. They founded what would become Bickfordstown with a log cabin as their initial nucleus. Over time they added more buildings until they had six structures total - four homes and two schools (now demolished). By 1860, about 100 people lived in Bickfordstown with 10 businesses providing services such as wagon transportation or tanning hides on their hay barns/stables properties on either side of Elm Street between Third Avenue and Main Street (now Griggs Road). A grocery store was opened by Abram Stover in 1862 and soon afterwards several other businesses selections like furniture stores gave birth to what we now know as retail areas downtown (Second Avenue) .A post office was established at Bickfordstown in 1865 under the name "Benton". That same year saw the erection of one of north central Illinois' first churches - First Presbyterian Church (later Hillsboro Presbyterian), also located on Second Avenue just south of State Street between Randolph Road & Elmhurst Cemetery The industrial Revolution began to take hold in northwestern Cook County during this time period with Textile mills starting up along with breweries that produced beer for local markets while grain elevators were constructed to store ample supplies during times when there wasn't much demand for produce due to an overabundance of rainfall or floods Furniture factories followed suit producing items such as chairs, sofas etc., becoming necessary for everyday living which attracted hordes of immigrants seeking opportunity During World War I thousands upon thousands young men enlisted here then fought off German invaders across America Afterward many residents emigrated making it one OfAmerica's most diverse cities The decline & abandonment of manufacturing took its toll; many businesses closed down within 15 years leaving behind abandoned storefronts & empty lots throughout downtownCHAUNTED MANAGEMENT OF HOMER GLEN BUSINESSES AFTER WWI: 1915-1945 In 1945 numerous companies within downtown Homer Glen went bankrupt including Singer Sewing Machines Co., JFS Fabricating Company Inc., GE Lumber products Division & National Tire Corporation all before being taken over by Allied Control Corp., later renamed simply American Control Corporation

Homer, an early settler and entrepreneur who founded a sawmill in the community in 1867. The first post office in Homer Glen was established on November 1, 1868, by Elisha K. Condon. The name of the community was changed to Homer on February 17, 1969 by order of then-Mayor Richard J. Daley due to its proximity to Cicero and other nearby communities that had been renamed Homer Township since the early 1800s. HomerGlen has remained largely unchanged since its incorporation as a town; only slight changes have occurred within its borders over time including: relocated schools (to Lemont Avenue), an annex added to Cook County Forest Preserve (now known as Mount Greenwood Forest Preserve), and a new fire station built in 1984 adjacent to Lemont High School which still serves as headquarters for the department today. Despite this lack of recent change, there are manyhistoric buildings that can be found throughout downtown Homer Glen such as First Congregational Church (founded 1865) and H & S Gorman's Hardware Store which were both built before 1919 or even existent records show that they did not open until after that date! Additionally some older businesses like Mrs Foley's Bakery still remain open today despite being around since 1926!
