One of the earliest hard gun cases to occur in Homer Glen occurred in 1868 when two men named Hermann and Wilhelm Mueller bought a shotgun from a local blacksmith. They quickly used it to shoot skeet at a nearby park. Soon after, they decided to make their own shotguns and pistols from scratch. Their new guns were called Mueller Modeles (later known as Smith & Wesson revolvers). The Mueller Modeles quickly gained popularity among local farmers and hunters who enjoyed using them for target practice and hunting game such as deer or turkey. In addition, these handguns were also popular among law enforcement officers because they could be easily concealed without having to remove any part of the firearm. As demand for these guns grew throughout Cook County, Moore & Company began manufacturing their own barrels specifically designed for Hard Gun Cases use. Homer Glen is located on the south side of Cook County and is bordered to the east by Lawndale Heights and to the west by Park Ridge. The town was founded in 1887 as a farming community named for General George Washington Homer and his wife Anna Loring. In 1922, General Homer's son-in-law, Everett K. Smith, purchased land in nearby Lawndale Heights and organized it into a township. In 1956, after changes in zoning laws allowed more housing development within reach of downtown Chicago, Smith sold all but 0.5% of his holdings in Homer Glen Township to businessman Harry Biddle for $2 million cash plus a mortgage on the village's assessed value of $8 million. Biddle renamed the village Homer Glen after himself and began construction on what would eventually become one of Chicagoland's most valuable shopping malls – now known simply as "Homer Glen." The mall opened its doors to shoppers in 1974 and has since grown into one of Illinois' largest shopping destinations with over 150 stores and restaurants. The name change did not reflect any change in business focus or operations; rather it reflected Biddle's belief that "Homer" conveyed an image of rural good times while "Glen" represented speed and strength – qualities he saw as essential ingredients for success at his new mall. Today, despite facing occasional challenges from developers looking to build larger projects near their properties or elsewhere within town limits (most notably an attempted demolition campaign waged against the mall during the early 2000s), Homer Glen remains one of downtownChicago’s most popular destinations with 1 million customers each month visiting its stores and restaurants combined!

Homer Glen experienced rapid growth during World War II with many military installations being built here including Fort Sheridan (later Camp Douglas), North Park Army Airfield (now North Park Community College), Hickory Hills Naval Air Station (now Hickory Hills Municipal Airport), Aviation gasoline storage tanks at Hammonds Ford Dam (now Hammonds Ford Lake), and other industrial sites such as Aircraft Production Facility No. 1 at Primex Corporation's plant on Milwaukee Avenue/West Adams Boulevard). Today, much of what once made up these military installations has been replaced by permanent civilian uses such as education institutions such as Northwestern University-Homer Glen Campus; businesses including Boeing Co.; energy companies like ConocoPhillips Inc., LP; auto manufacturers including Chrysler Group LLC; heavy machinery producers like Caterpillar Inc.; agricultural production companies like Monsanto Company; among others. As recently as 1990 – less than 50 years ago – Homer Glen had only 350 residents total while now it has over 7500 residents who enjoy all that life has to offer: access to public education through local schools overseen by a village board composed of five elected officials appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel; easy access to shopping opportunities accessed via several arterial roads leading away from downtown Chicagoland; excellent infrastructure for special needs citizens thanks to both state-of-the-art medical facilities located just outside town limits along with accessible ambulance service delivered directly to residences should an emergency arise; beautiful parks systems comprising four main districts - Central Park East/Oakland Park South/South Holland - each occupying acrescentered around popular public spaces complete with playgrounds/amphitheatres/restaurants etc.; enjoyed communities events which attract thousands of visitors annually typically headlined by local festivals & concerts held throughout fall & winter months preceding Easter weekend which showcases top amateur musicians from around Chicagoland performing at various venues across town near Prairie du Chien Airport
The town of Homer Glen, Illinois was founded in 1846 by Samuel and Lydia Wright. The town was named after Homer, a small village in Greece. When the American Civil War began, the Wright family decided to stay in Greece and offered their land for military service. The town became one of the most heavily fortified towns in the Midwest. After the war, many farmers moved into the town because it had good soil and access to water resources. In 1957, Homer Glen incorporated as a city.
