Homer Glen, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,312 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Homer Glen is named after John A. Homer, an early settler and founder of the village. The first settlers in Homer Glen were farmers who arrived in 1824. The village was organized on December 3, 1838 by a group of men from Geneva Township under the leadership of Amos Kendall. In 1840, General James Kapp established a post office in the village and mail continued to be delivered there until 1954 when it was moved to Geneva. This community experienced rapid growth due to its location near two railways: the Erie Railroad and Chicago Southern Railway (C$2 million investment). streetcar service began operation in 1907 and soon became an important part of life in Homer Glen; residents would take their streetcar to work or visit friends outside of town while they enjoyed dinner at one of several local restaurants or stores on Saturday nights. In 1915, Homer Glen became home to America's first high school for girls; Springfield Female High School was founded there by Mrs. Hapgood with financial support from millionaire George Pullman Jr.. The original building still stands today and can be visited as part of a guided tour led by staff members from Springfield High School which opened its doors on October 15th, 1915. Over time more schools have been built within the boundaries of Homer Glen including three elementary schools (grades K-5), one middle school (6-8), one high school (9-12) as well as several businesses such as banks, grocery stores and Grain Belt Foods Inc., which has been located at 1406 Nenning Road since 1978. Heinz food company also had their headquarters here before moving out into Englewood Cliffs IL where they remain today

Homer Glen was founded in 1892 by farmers from Holland and England who had been displaced during the American Civil War. The name "Homer" comes from a place called Haddonfield in Middlesex County, Connecticut; these English settlers were looking for a new home after their previous farmstead on the shores of Lake Michigan went up for sale in 1875. The early settlers were Methodists and they built churches and schools here. In 1907, Homer Glen became an incorporated village under the name of Homer Glen Heights. In 1957, it became a city when it annexed portions of Skokie and Wheaton (then known as West Pullman). The annexation made Homer Glen one of the youngest cities in Illinois. In 1978, Bart Simpson's family moved to Homer Glen from Springfield due to Bart's father's job at Monsanto headquarters there. The Simpsons have lived here ever since (except for three years while they resided in Scotts Valley). In 2003, Lisa moves out with her dog Marge to live with her grandparents on Topanga Lane until she can find an apartment complex that meets her needs as a single mother;[1] this short-lived move is later chronicled in Lisa's book My Life As an Only Child which takes place after she moves out altogether but before she becomes pregnant again (in real life Topanga Lane doesn't exist).[2][3] Today, most residents are either working or raising families inside their homes,[4][5] despite efforts by mayor Daley to bring jobs into town throughways such as Interstate 90/I-94X.[6][7] One popular activity is playing golf;[8] other locals enjoy arts and culture events held at local venues such as Danforth Place or Granger Park;[9][10] fishing tournaments are also common Events throughout summertime including one held each year on Memorial Day Weekend which brings together many community members from across Cook County united against plastic bag pollution
