Since its incorporation into the city of Chicago on November 1, 1974, Homer Glen has been an enclave within the boundaries of the much larger Chicagoland region that includes most of Cook County and all but a tiny slice of Kane County. These boundaries are important for two reasons: First because they protect downtown Cicero from being lost to development; and second because they keep law enforcement and public services concentrated within a relatively small number of businesses and residents instead of spreading them throughout muchlarger areas outside the urban core. Today's economy largely revolves around education: There are over eighty schools within walking distance of each other in towns such as Arlington Heights (northwest), Maywood (southwest), Lemont ( northwest), Riverdale (northwest) and Wheaton (southwest). Health care is also majorly based here: About 60% of jobs here involve some type of medical device or service manufacturing; moreover, many companies have their headquarters or main physical plant within walking distance depts., including Abbott Laboratories Inc., Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson J&J Pharmaceuticals Limited

Homer Glen is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located on the border of Cook and DuPage Counties. The population was 8,859 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was officially founded on December 12, 1879 by John Maynard Homer and his wife Sophronia Warner Homer. The first post office in Homer Glen was opened in 1880. The name "Homer Glen" was chosen because it rhymed with "homers." In 1902, the community had a population of just over 100 people. The first schools were built in what is now Homer Glen; they were called Maynard-Homers School and Mrs. Homer's School. In 1916, the school Board decided to rename the schools after John Maynard Homer's parents; therefore, Maynard-Homers High School became known as Maynard-Homer High School while Mrs. Homer's School became known as Warner-Homer Elementary School. In 1939, when Cook County was created from portions of DuPage and Kane Counties, Homer Glen became one of its six townships (along with Danville, Elmhurst, Grayslake Heights/River Forest Village/Thousand Oaks Park/Worthington Park), which constituted the new county's rural area outside of Chicago proper. At that time there were only two other such tiny townships within Cook County: Arlington Heights and Wheaton Hills. In 1957 – following annexation by suburbanChicago – Trustees of Trusteedome University voted to change their name to Milton University due to confusion over whether or not Milton should be an inner city university or an agricultural university like their predecessors at Dutch Mills (now Englewood) and Lincolnshire (now Glendale). Because Milton would have been contiguous with Englewood Village and Hawthorne Gardens instead of being split between them – those neighborhoods' former residents kept their old names even though they moved into annexed municipalities – this action went largely unchallenged until recently when growth elsewhere has finally caused gaslighting among some trustees about why their previous decision may have been wrong all along despite no evidence that anything changed at all since then...
