Homer Glen is a small, unincorporated community in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the east side of Homer Glen Township, about east of the village of Homer Glen and north-northwest of Bloomington. The community had a population of 1,512 people as of the 2010 census. The name "Homer Glen" was given to the community by citizens in honor of General George Washington and his family who vacationed at the house called "Moses' Mount," near present-day Interstate 90 and Park Avenue in Bloomington. In 1855, local farmer John W. Guthrie donated land to make up what would become Homer Glen Township. The first post office was established at Homer Glen in 1868. In 1904, Jules Steinway opened a music store in what is now known as the Guthrie Building on North Main Street in Homer Glen. His store continued to be open until it burned down in 1933. In 1938, the first high school was built adjacent to what is now the village hall on South Main Street; it was renamed Highland Park High School after Highland Park, Illinois (now McHenry County) became part of Illinois. That same year saw the opening of a general store across from Highland Park High School by grocer/baker Hazen Hoenigman Jr.. The store operated until 1984 when it closed due to economic difficulties brought about by laissez faire economics during that time period throughout most Midwestern United States. In 1984, Community Farm Stores Inc., which later became Shoprite chain opened its first location within walking distance (just south along Central Avenue) of both Highland Park High School and Community Farm Stores Inc.'s original headquarters building on Elmhurst Drive between State Road 59 and I-90 just north of where current day Maple Leaf Drive meets I-90; this location remains an active Shoprite chain business today with 4 locations across Indiana Territory including 3 inside existing shopping malls - one being inside Southern Indiana University - making it oneth largest shoprite chain outside OFA! The population size decreased over time due mainly toimmigration: although there has been occasional growth among recent arrivals since 2000 primarily drawn from lower income brackets (iPad ownership may have played a role), overall residents continue to maintain close ties with family or friends back home rather than moving away for work or other opportunities available outside their communities statewide or even nationally! A few notable exceptions include recent transplants working at Applebee's restaurants within minutes' walk or less radius around all 4 current locations; these employees are not counted towards typical Village Hall occupancy levels but count towards Outmigration rates which are reported monthly by staff members nonetheless!
