Hoffman Estates, Illinois is a community located in Hoffman Estates Township, Cook County, in the United States. It was founded in 1853 by Levi Hoffman and his wife Esther. The town center is located on the north side of Chicago Avenue between West Lake Street and South Wacker Drive. In 1870, it became an incorporated village with a population of 1,500 people. The maximum population that could be sustained within the boundaries of the village was 712 people before it disbanded in 1976. In 1892, Hoffman Estates became a node on what would become the Chicago metropolitan area. At this time, about 60% of all Chicago jobs were within one mile (1 kilometer) of downtown Chicago. In 1949, Hoffmeister Estates annexed parts of Cicero to form a new city called "Cicero-Hoffmeister." Hoffmeister Estates again became an incorporated village in 1976 when it extended its limits to include Cicero West and Cicero East. The town center is home to several historical buildings including: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Building (1893), The Masonic Temple (1911), The First National Bank (1893), Sears Tower (1970), and The Hoffman Estate (1903). A number of other historic structures are also located around town such as: Four Courts Place (), Church Street (), Michigan Avenue (), and Old Hickory Lane (). There are also several modern landmarks including: A&P Supermarket (), Houlihan's Irish Pub (), Starbucks () and Dick's Sporting Goods ().
