Gun sights have been a part of American society for centuries. They were introduced into this country in the mid-18th century by Revolutionary War veterans and pioneers, who needed to avoid being mistaken for enemies while travelling through enemy territory. The first gunsights were simple rectangles that could only be used with a single gun. By the early 19th century, however, rifles had become so popular that manufacturers developed more sophisticated sights. One of the first firearms sights was an iron or brass crossguard sight called a “bull’s eye” or sometimes simply an “eye.” It consisted of two circles that faced each other on either side of the bore axis, and allowed the shooter to focus on one circle while shooting at another target. Many early firearms sights were patented by their inventor(s). The 1837 design by Ebenezer Colt featured what is now known as the Colt rotary sight system. This device allowed users to move the aiming point around within its circle (up and down, left and right) using a quick movement of one hand while firing at a target in rangefinder mode. This innovative feature made it possible for shooters to adjust their aim during battle without having to take off their hat or remove their glasses! In 1853, George Hennepin invented his own rotary sight system which became known as the Hennepin arm system. This device allowed shooters to rotate their Aiming Point (A) about its vertical axis in order to change its elevation (E). By rotating A about its vertical axis, shooters could also adjust how close they wanted their target to be positioned relative to them – from 100 yards away up close, all the way out at 10 yards offhand!
There are many different types of sights for handguns, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. In 1847, a group of farmers in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, founded the first gunsmith shop in the area. The shop was started by John A. Hoffman and his son John P. Hoffman. In 1871, the name of the business changed to Springfield Armory Inc., and it became one of the largest firearms manufacturers in America. In 1903, Springfield Armory merged with Colt Industries to form Colt Firearms Corporation.
Hoffman Estates is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Hoffman Estates" derives from George Hoffman and his brothers who operated a gristmill in what is now Hoffman Estates. George's grandson John B. Hoffman purchased the mill in 1868 and continued to run it until 1902. In 1871, he married Anna Ladd of Crystal Lake and they started a family that would grow to include thirteen children. In 1893, Harry Sanger opened a grocery store on the corner ofnorth Avenue and Westcott Street in what is now Hoffman Estates. By 1906, Harry had developed into one of the largest grocery stores in the area with locations throughout Cook County and out into other areas of Illinois as well. In 1917, Harry sold his company to A&P supermarket chain for $1 million dollars which made him one of the richest men in Cook County history. Over time, Harry has also become known for his philanthropy including giving away over $200 million dollars to various organizations across different sectors such as education, health care,the arts and more. In 1926-27 architect Edward Jekyll designed an elaborate estate called Rosedale Manor which was later donated by Mrs Roosevelt to be used as a model home for lower income families within walking distance of Hyde Park (now Chicago). The property included 5 contributing buildings: two houses - one with three stories each; an addition with four stories; an office building with twenty-four rooms on two floors; a garage/workshop on one floor; five tennis courts; and four servant quarters (all with air conditioning). Today only two structures from Jekyll's original design remain: One house remains standing at 215 North Wabash Avenue while another was demolished in 1978-79 after being condemned as structurally deficient by city officials due its extensive use of asbestos materials during its construction period! As taprooms became popular among urbanites during this time period many small breweries were established around Chicago including White Eagle Brewery (later Stroh Brewing) at 4455 South Michigan Ave., BREWPUBLIC at 15 N La Salle Ave., First National Bank brewery at 1111 E State St.,and numerous others still existing today

Hoffman Estates was founded in 1881 by George Hoffmann. The Hoffmann family ran the business until it merged with Armour-Alloy in 1919.
