Hinsdale, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Virginia, United States. The population was 10,552 at the 2010 census. Hinsdale is part of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Hinsdale was founded by Latter-day Saints in 1839 as a settlement on the east side of present-day Illinois Avenue near where George Washington's Mount Vernon plantation once stood. In 1847 it was moved to its current location on the west side of Illinois Avenue after being forced out of their original land triangular piece of ground that included most of what is now McLean County. The name "Hinsdale" comes from an early settler's account which stated that he and his brother saw "a beautiful valley with high mountains around it" while traveling through western Virginia and decided to name their new home after this observation. The first post office in Hinsdale opened in 1840, but only served residents of neighboring Belleville until 1845 when it became apparent that there would be additional settlers added to the community every day and so a post office was built on US 2 (later State Route 219) just south of town limits in order to serve all those who desired mail service within reach. At one point there were over 20 such offices within a mile radius of downtown Hinsdale! In 1851 Hinsdale had three churches: First Baptist Church (founded by John Sibley), Second Baptist Church (founded by Samuel Gibbs), and Methodist Episcopal Church #2 which served as both church and school until 1886 when both were merged into one congregation known today as First United Methodist Church. Along with other local businesses like millinery stores, groceries stores, saloons, livery stables etc., during the late 1800s & early 1900s much growth occurred throughout downtown business district culminating with establishment of several blocks long connected public market complex including two banks – National City Bank (1893) & Trust Company Building (1902). This commercial area quickly assimilated immigrants coming into town starting with Irish immigrants working at local breweries beginning in the 1880s followed by Poles working at many American Tobacco companies located nearby before World War I brought waves of refugees - Italians among them - arriving seeking economic opportunities unavailable back home during their respective wars fought elsewhere or fleeing religious persecution back home. During Prohibition period some aspects related to drinking alcohol continued unchanged such as prohibition agency established next door to old Masonic Temple which functioned as unofficial bootlegging enforcement outpost despite owner's efforts prohibiting liquor sales inside his building; however later prohibition repealed leaving only restaurants open serving food rather than liquor providing another opportunity for organized crimesters looking for unchecked profits beyond regularriminal activity typical during preProhibition era eras more often associated with Northeastern USA region characterized by restrictive zoning laws governing industrial/commercial developmentrelative to cultural/social activities prevalent elsewhere across entire Southwestern USA regions lacking these same restrictions relative thereto resulting in increased access for lower level criminal elements operating outside normal regulatory purview generally characteristic contemporary Northeastern USA regions notwithstanding increasing frequency and severity thereof overall since 1920 via internet connection allowing less Restrictive Zoning Laws Relative To Cultural/Social Activities prevailing Elsewhere Prior To1920 . Some notable pioneer entrepreneurs who have contributed significantlyto downtown business district include businessman Willis Waddell who started dry goods store adjoining Belleville cemetery during difficult days following Reconstruction; banker J B Harriman whose Federal Savings Bank building constructed 1909 remains one Of earliest brick buildings erected within city limits still extant.; physician James Bryce McKnight formed Bryce Hospitality Corporation which operateredrained Inn On Main Street adjacentToHospital from 1950 thru 1990 priorTo closure; plumber Sidney Rice founded Peoples Plumbing & Drainage Company c 1925 becoming oneOf Nationally Significant plumbing contractors laughablysmallercomparedTo similar Home Hardware Stores currently operating contemporaneous statewide; grocer Clarence Price founded Price grocery store 1922 expanding operations into second floor former Masonic Temple

Hinsdale is part of the Fairfax-Alexandria, VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community of Hinsdale was founded in 1851 by George Washington Carver and his wife Hannah Carruth. The name comes from the Indian word "hin" meaning "hollow." In 1903, Hinsdale became one of three townships in McLean County which were organized to provide more education for the farmers of rural areas around Alexandria. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson visited Hinsdale and spoke on behalf of General Electric Co., Ltd., one of several local businesses that had been established during World War I to support war efforts. At the time, many Americans believed that war was a necessary evil needed to protect democracy and morality. After Wilson's visit, many residents formed patriotic organizations such as the American Legion to continue their support for war efforts even after it was revealed that these organizations were fronts for German espionage activities. In 1926, construction began on what would become known as Carver High School; at first only boys were allowed to attend but eventually girls too entered into this segregated school system until 1970 when it became open to all students regardless of race or gender identity. In 1969–70 alone, over 1 million dollars was raised through bake sales and other fundraising events in order to help purchase new playground equipment for Carver High School which then helped spark growth within the school district overall and led to increased enrollment throughout Fairfax County overall. As technology changed over time and cell phone usage increased among students throughout America (particularly among young people who often spend large portions of their day online), so too did concerns about privacy arise with regards to personal information collected through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter etc.. After years of hearings and public outcry from parents across Fairfax County regarding this issue (including numerous protests outsideCarVER High School itself), finally in May 2013 both schools decided notto allow any student accounts on social media sites until further NOTICE had been given by either parent or guardian about why such an account should be allowed in the first place(which never happened). However due to recent news articles highlighting how Facebook has been used by criminals & terrorists etc...the decision may have come more as a response than anything else since Facebook has adamantly refused various requests by police/security forces across America pertaining specifically to user data & content relating thereto
