Highland Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 16,811 at the 2010 census. Highland Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The land that would become Highland Park was first settled by Native Americans in the mid-19th century. In 1871, the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad founded a station in what is now Highland Park. The original town center was located on State Street between Pulaski and Hinsdale Roads. A post office was established in 1872, and growth slowed until the late 1800s because of competing railroad interests and prejudice against Irish immigrants. In 1902, John Pritzker bought 1/3 of all of Section 6 East from Stephen Girard for $6,000 to create what is now Lincolnwood Heights neighborhood on parts of which he had also purchased from Girard in 1892. Pritzker built two homes there – one called "Pritzker House" (now occupied by Northwestern Mutual) and another known as "Girard's Domain". The development became known as Pritzker Highlands after him and his family). In 1907–08 an Act to establish a School District No. 9 passed by the Illinois General Assembly; it merged with other school districts north of Cicero into one district which included south suburban Bridgeport Township but did not include Highland Park or its annexed areas east of Cicero Road (later Addison Road). Consequently, Highland Park lacked municipal services such as streetlights or sewers until after 1914 when those services were extended to all school districts within Cook County under then Superintendent George Larrabee’s reorganization plan which took effect January 1st 1915. A fire destroyed most of Girdler's Drug Store on West Glenarm Road near Cicero Avenue on November 12th 1904 ; this store had been open since 1886 when Jno Girdler opened it as a druggist/pharmacist with supplies for soldiers during World War I . It reopened as a grocery store later that year with inventory supplied by druggist Wm Fenton who co-owned Girdler's Drug Store next door at 108 W Glenarm Rd

Highland Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Highland Park was organized on November 2, 1871, by territorial residents of Chicago who desired to keep their community separate from the rest of the city. It became a municipality on December 1, 1872. On July 20, 1907, Highland Park annexed part of Evanston Township. The first settlers in Highland Park were two families who immigrated from Scotland in 1851 and settled on a farm near what is now the corner of Wabash and Ottawa Streets. In 1870 Johnnie Buchanan purchased land east of present-day North Avenue and west of Washington Street for $1 million dollars which would later become Highland Park. The citizens voted to name their new community after Lord Glasgow's ancestral home "Glasgow." In 1914 an act was passed by the Illinois General Assembly creating a park system within Cook County called "The Prairie Parks." Included in this bill were lands adjacent to Highland Park which had been deeded to the City by the Arlington Heights Land Company. This gift allowed for development along Randolph Road between Schaumburg Boulevard and I-294 with access from Roosevelt Road northward as well as southward into Dearborn Heights through willow trees and open fields until it reached Brushwood Hills where it terminated at Harlem Woods Drive today. On October 3rd 1915, President Woodrow Wilson delivered his address at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago during his three days visit to Cook County that included stops at several cities including Highland Park which he pronounced "a model township." Wilson praised Highland Park for its excellent public schools and ordered local authorities to erect better facilities within town limits while also proclaiming its importance as an agricultural center due to its fertile soil%. One year earlier on September 8th 1916 (the same day that World War I began), Mayor John Haughton dedicated six acres east of Greenleaf Avenue just off Randolph Road north of Schaumburg Boulevard for use as an athletic field with spectators being able to watch football games between Chicago Public Schools teams from then until 1923 when they moved indoors becauseOf construction work on Jackson Fieldhouse across Pulaski Road (now Lincoln Highway). The field eventually became known as Haughton Stadium afterMayor Haughton's wife Helen who donated $500K towards its construction.. In 1941 when World War II started there were only 350 people living in HighlandsPark but by 1945 it had increased 50 fold with over 6000 residents spread out over 11 blocks bounded by Michigan Ave., Wabash St., State Rd.#4 (now Kedzie Ave.), Pinehurst Dr., Washburn Rd./Hwy 111/Drs 68 & 71 (now Midway Dr.) & Ontario Rd./Evanston Rd./Wabash Ave., all located inside City Limits
