The first European to explore what is now Hickory Hills was Captain James Cook in 1770. Cook's ships discovered and charted theChicago River and its tributaries including the Schuylkill River which he named "Hickory" after one of his crewmen. The local settlers were farmers who decided to move from Ohio because of the bad weather there during wintertime. They arrived in 1811 and built their homes on a large tract of land that included present-day Hickory Hills and parts of Center Pointe Township. It wasn't until 1871 that railroad companies extended service eastward from Chicago through Hickory Hills, making it possible for people to work in Chicago without going far away. In 1870, Haughton Brothers erected a sawmill on the north side of Route 66 just west of present-day Hickory Hills; this mill continued production until it closed in 1976. Today there are several businesses located in and around Hickory Hill with many residents engaged in agriculture, manufacturing, or trade services such as accounting, engineering, healthcare/medical care, research & development, education, etc.; some also enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing or hiking within easy reach. As early as 1812 an act was passed by the General Assembly setting up a board for township administration within each new township formed within McLean County; however these boards were not always active and no record exists specifically documenting how much authority these boards had over township citizens other than occasional appearances before county court dockets – acts which would have been recorded by those official records if they had been more effective at keeping track of township politics (which they barely were). In 1830 when David Fenton set out from Springfield with five hundred dollars offered him by John Pritzker – one of Illinois' leading businessmen –Fenton thought he'd found Paradise Valley! Unfortunately for Fenton his efforts did not pan out as paradise seemed like it might be right around the corner but instead he found himself living among Indians near Fort Dearborn on Lake Michigan where he started building taverns called The Dearborn House (later known as The Windy City Grill) despite still having no idea what business he should be pursuing! By 1840 all taverning activity along I-470 had stopped due to fear that fortification measures being put into place by then=the government would make it impossible for civilians to consume alcohol without getting arrested or worse; however David Pearson who operated another tavern called The Capitol Tavern kept eating so much crow that eventually state troops showed up at his establishment asking him to stop serving liquor because “this place used too much powder”! This event showed Clearly that although Ft Dearborn may have been “the most beautiful spot on earth” according to one observer at the time(James La Plata), military installations had no jurisdiction over civilian life inside townships ! With apologies to Mr. Pearson we must end this historical bit about him since our focus here will now be upon Mrs.(?) herself 🙂 . . . On March 3rd 1847 Lemuel Gibbs filed a petition with circuit court clerk against Isaac Goodloe claiming good title thereto arising out of boundary dispute between them concerning lands lying eastward between them on York Pike…Gibbs prevailed against Goodloe….This case became famous because Lemuel Gibbs took possessionof Partition Line line patent No 569 from Elijah Hubbard dated March 3rd 1847″ (from History Of Hancock County: A Guide To Historical Records [2nd ed.] Edited by Lee Ransom], p6) In 1840 Abraham Lincoln's father was born into a family of mechanics living near Mount Auburn Racetrack outside Springfield Ill., Abraham Lincoln began working odd jobs when he was 10 years old helping his father run the tracks while also attending school nights and weekends...in1846 Abraham Lincoln became an apprentice under Josiah Bartlett at age 15…he worked his way up through Bartlett's employments including becoming managerial accountant at age 27…In1850 Abe became an agent for Leflore & Co., Merchants Bankers trading with England & Scotland…Lincoln served two terms consecutively as treasurer during Aaron Burr's governorship (1855–57) When Samuel Adams ran for Governor against Burr in1858 Abe joined forces with Stephen Douglas running on a ticket opposed to Burr…………..When Quincy Adams ran for Governor AGAIN against Burr in1862 Abe rejoin[d] Stephen Douglas……………..After President John F Kennedy was assassinated Abe moved back into Springfield so he could help tendTo His funeral arrangements………. Hickory bought some land from David Brown about two miles southeast of present-day Hickory Hills. He founded Hickory Hills as a village with his family as its first trustees. In 1854, he donated land for a public school which became known as "Hickory Hill School." On July 10, 1858, voters approved an ordinance creating a township form of government for Hickory Hills residents instead of being governed by individual families or trustees who voted only on local matters. In 1862 when Kansas seceded from United States and became an independent state, HickORY HILLS WORE THE STAR OF KANSAS! After Kansas joined the Union in 1861 it removed all Confederate flags from public buildings including schools including "HickORY HILL SCHOOL". This event took place during reconstruction after Civil War and helped build good relations between blacks and whites in Illinois as well asKansas after that event occurred
