Hickory Hills, Illinois is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Hickory Hills is located on the border of Cook and DuPage counties. The town was platted in 1871 by John Pemberton and James Milligan as a farming community for farmers in what is now DuPage County. In 1881, Hickory Hills became a city and it has since grown to have a population of over 12,000 people with over 130 businesses. According to the 2010 US Census, there are 9,521 people living in Hickory Hills Township including 2,869 households and 5,924 families residing within the unincorporated portions of township. Of these occupants 1,711 (27%) are foreign born residents; 714 (20%) are African American; 546 (10%) are Asian; 328 (6%) are Hispanic or Latino origin; and 186 (4%) are white European American settlers who were not naturalized citizens at the time of their arrival in Illinois. Residents within incorporated boundaries also account for 2% of the township's total population: 424 households with 2 children under age 10 living inside those boundaries; 298 detached dwellings occupied by owners who did not live within township borders but whose properties abutted township boundaries

Hickory Hills is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 1,851 at the 2000 census. Hickory Hills has been a community for over 100 years. The first settlers of Hickory Hills arrived in 1837, and the town was founded in 1839. The original homes were built on a hill that still stands today. Hickory Hills was named after the hickories found near the townsite. In 1865, the First National Bank of Hickory Hills was constructed and became one of the first banks in Illinois. In 1915, Hickory Hills Elementary School opened its doors to students from kindergarten through eighth grade. At that time, it was one of only two schools in McLean County with such facilities. In 1970, Hurricane Agnes destroyed much of central Illinois and caused extensive damage to towns and villages along the Mississippi River flood plain. As a result, Hickory Hill experienced significant damage which included loss of homes and businesses as well as serious flooding throughout much of its residents’ neighborhoods including parts of downtown and several blocks away from school buildings. Despite this devastation, many people continued to live in their homes until they could be rebuilt or moved out due to lack of available housing elsewhere in central Illinois during those years; however, some residents did move into new construction projects which began soon after recovery had begun. In 2001-2002, Hickory Hills received $2 million from United States Department Of Commerce To help improve local infrastructure including roads and schools as part of their " millennium initiative ". This money allowed for street resurfacing and other necessary repairs which have made Hickroy HIlls more accessible for everyone living within its boundaries since then!
