This continued to grow until World War I when guns stopped being produced in Hickory Hills for fear of war. However, rifle production resumed after the war and has been continuous ever since. Hickory Hills, Illinois is a small town in the northwest corner of Illinois. It is bordered by McLean County to the north, Marshall County to the east, and Sangamon County to the south. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Hickory Hills is part of the Peoria-Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that makes up Hickory Hills was first settled by Europeans in 1795 when they arrived on what is now McCook Township. The township was organized as a village in 1837 and became a town in 1875. Hickory Hills has a rich history dating back to early settler days. In 1795, John Sayer founded Sayer's Grove near today's Hickory Hill Mall on land that he had purchased from an Indian chief named Sachem Weahington. Sayer's Grove would become one of Hinsdale's most important businesses and remain active until it closed its doors in 1978. In 1837, James Kapp assigned his brother John Kapp Jr., together with George Stephenson along with Nicholas Galese and others to survey and plat all of what is now Hancock County for future settlement by Americans. On July 2, 1837, American settlers began moving into what are now McCook Township (now Hickory Hills) from nearby Ottawa Valley settlements including Millikenville and Northfield under the leadership of Captain James Kapp Jr.. At first there were only men but over time women also came overland from northern Indiana via Uniontown (now Lebanon), Aledo (Algonquin) and other villages during this period of early America hysteria known as "the Great Migration." Settlement continued through fall1837 when Major General Andrew Jackson established military post at Cairo Barracks on Raccoon Creek which served as headquarters for his Department of War throughout much of Illinois Territory prior to the organization of State government on January 3, 1840 following Jackson's victory in Battle Of Prairie Ford at Hennepin River Bridge against Native American forces led by Chief Joseph Red Cloud aka Crazy Horse). Kapp donated 640 acres bordering present-day Hinsdale Village westward along Raccoon Creek Boulevard to found Hickory Hills Village; this parcel became known as "The Preserve" because it remained unorganized until 1973 when it was annexed into Hinsdale Village proper pursuant to an agreement between then Mayor Robert Fenton and then Village Manager Don Whitehead which provided forVillage status for all properties within The Preserve boundaries excepting those aforementioned parcels which have been annexed into neighboring municipalities since then: For example - Brookside Drive & West Side Drive - these streets currently carry street name but their original village borders were within The Preserve boundaries; such annexation occurred due primarily to development within adjacent municipalities rather than any intrinsic feature or value associated with The Preserve itself.- thus continuing one phase...of community revitalization initiated by pioneers who desired more personal control over their surroundings than had ever been afforded before! Today, many people who grew up here continue working or living closeby including many managers & professionals such as law enforcement officers/agents/firefighters etc.; while others have taken advantage of various amenities available throughout downtown Peoria or farther away like Route 66 access without havingto leave their home district! There are also several golf courses located around town providing opportunities both amateur & professional players alike! As always we enjoy our delicious local applesauce made using scratchy old trees grown hereabouts; fresh breads baked daily out front by our bakery & general store; hand-drawn Maps available free courtesy OFD&LinkMaps;; some excellent ice cream treats can be found at our local grocery store called Mrs Grimes' Creamery situated just off US Highway 26 about 5 miles northeast of town center.......thus making life interesting right smack dab in the middle OF ALL THE TOWN GOODS!!!!!!!!!

By 1870, Decker had added land for residential development on Park Avenue between Halsted Street and Kedzie Boulevard. The city of Chicago annexed Hickory Hills on January 1st, 1871. During World War II, HickORY HILLS JEWELRY COOPERATIVE served as one of many local organizations helping to contribute to the war effort by purchasing materials needed for munitions production including tools, uniforms and other equipment from suppliers all over the nation
