Hickory Hills is a small community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is bordered by the towns of Lyons and Hickory Grove on the north, Frayser Heights on the east, Westmont on the south and west, and Oak Lawn on the southwest. The population was 992 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1875 by John Hinkle. The first post office opened in 1876. Hickory Hills became a village in 1907 and a city in 1959. The Village of Hickory Hills was incorporated on November 3, 1916. In 1978, Hickory Hills became one of fourteen villages within the newly formed Kankakee Township. According to the 2010 census, there are 1,539 people living in Hickory Hills with a total population density of . There are also 274 households out of which 31% have children under the age of eighteen living with them, 50% are married couples living together, 10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20% are non-families. Of all households 25% were made up of individuals and 10% had someone else live with them who was not related to them by blood or adoption
