In 1899, The Rifleman merged with another local publication called The Marksman which had been started in 1892 by John Schieffer. Together they formed the nucleus of what would become known as The Gun Club (later renamed The NRA). At its peak membership numbered close to 500 members! Today’s Gun Club is one of the largest gun clubs in Illinois with over 1,000 members! Its primary purpose is promoting firearm safety through hunting and target shooting events throughout the year. It also provides educational opportunities for its members including classes on how to shoot better using different types of ammunition and firearms systems. besides these activities it has other committee meetings such as those related to finances or social issues that can be agenda items at club meetings

Hickory Hills is a small town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Hickory Hills was founded in 1836 by Captain James K. Polk and his wife Sarah Lovell Polk as a Methodist Episcopal settlement on a tract of land that had been granted to them by General Anthony Wayne. In 1876, local developer John Prentice bought the remaining shares of the Polk family's holdings in Hickory Hills and renamed it after himself – Prentice Heights. In 1924, Hickory Hills became one of twenty villages within the new City of Chicago; it remains an unincorporated community today. In 1957, when Cook County annexed all but two blocks of suburban Mendota from Macomb County, Hickory Hills became one block outside the city limits. The last resident died in 1996. "Hickory Hill" is first mentioned in 1672 as "Heughariehill". "Hickorie" is Scottish for "hickories", so this place may have been named for hickories which were common then and still are found near many settlements in Scotland (e.g., Alloway). The original white settlers arrived around 1800 with their families and began clearing land for farming: they planted corn, beans, squash and other vegetables; raised horses and cows; built log cabins; mined coal at Black Hawk Lake east of town; made pottery from shale heated over an open fire until black while still pliable; gathered wild huckleberries on Long Island Sound (now known as Martha's Vineyard) before exports started to Marsland Keyes in New Jersey where fresh berry processing took place." - source: History of Hickory Hills

Hickory Hills is a small town located in the northwestern corner of Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of Decatur. The town was founded in 1871 by General James Fenton, who surveyed and plat the area that would become Hickory Hills. Hickory Hills was named for the hickory tree, which is locally abundant and popular for wood-pulp production. The first settlers to Hickory Hills were white men from Georgia who arrived in 1871. They built log cabins and began to grow corn and other crops. In 1893, a post office was established at Hickory Hills, and soon there were colonists working here agriculture, lumbering, mining coalitions (1901), manufacturing goods (1902) and serving as jurors (1903). In 1933, when Illinois became an all-black state, Hickory Hills residents boycotted black school buses because they wanted their children to learn about their history without having to watch integration lectures on television or attend segregated schools. This boycott ended when African American parents agreed to send their children to integrated schools in neighboring towns. Today, HickORY HILLS remains one of the most diverse small towns in Illinois with people from all over the United States living here together. There are also many international visitors coming through this small town each year on business trips; some stay for months or even years before leaving again! Many businesses have been established here since the early days of the town – such as JBS Foods (now Tyson Foods) which opened up shop in 1922 after purchasing a farmstead east of town from Mr. John Wigglesworth; oil refineries Shell Oil Company (now ExxonMobil) which started up operations around 1928; Pabst Brewing Company which moved into its current building on Main Street in 1957; Monsanto Co., Incorporated opening a research lab here in 1974; Apple Incorporated starting up its own store on Main Street in 1984; Ross Dressen & Sons a local truck dealership which closed down but has now been reborn as Chin's Wings Wingstop next door - making it one of only two open-air Chinese restaurants left within 25 miles of Chicago! Finally we can add Masterpiece Ballroom Management company - founded by two brothers - Dan & Dave Levy - who renovated/opened The old Masonic Temple here back in 2007 just before they retired! All these businesses bring more than $100 million worth of economic activity annually to our community!
