Hickory Hills is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,839 at the 2010 census. Hickory Hills is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Hickory Hills was Isaac Porter in 1814. In 1833, George Fenton built a cabin on the banks of the North Branch of the Fox River which he named "Fenton's Grove". By 1850, there were 9 families living in Hickory Hills. By 1860, Hickory Hills had a school and 3 businesses. By 1870, there were 11 families living in Hickory Hill with 146 acres (64 hectares). A post office was established at Hickory Hills in 1873 and remained so until it closed on July 1, 1907. In 1875-76 Jno Haggerty platted what became known as "Hickory Heights" east of present-day Ice cream Avenue and north of Woodstock Road. This land included much of what is now known as downtown Hickory Hills including most of the buildings that are still standing today such as The Dairy Queen and many other small restaurants and stores dating back to this time - some that remain unchanged from when they were constructed or added over time include Wernher's Meat Market & Grocery (now WMNX), The Armoury (now Lululemon Athletica), Breslin Bros., Willard Furniture Co., etcetera. Many residents who lived near HWY 12 or HWY 173 came here to work for Kansa Mines (later Kansas Mines) just south of US Highway 90 about 2 miles east along present day I-88/I-93 exit 8b thanks to John Paddedge Jr.'s hard work starting up what is now two major retail companies side by side - Kansa Minessupplies & Hardware store on I-88/I-93 exit 8b just south of USHighway 90 while also developing what would become known as Downtown Hawkridge eventually taking over most if not all original Village lots located between I-88/I-93 exit 8b & woodstock road before finally being annexed by City of Chicago circa 1925 when HWY 12 crossed into city limits

Hickory Hills is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 34,491 at the 2010 census. Hickory Hills is located on the Chicago-Naperville border. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and has a strong industrial base as well as suburban areas which are home to large shopping malls and other businesses. The community started as a small farming village on the edge of what is now Hickory Hills Township on the south side of Chicago. A post office was established there in 1871, and by 1881 it had grown to about 150 people. In 1886, however, the railroad arrived and derailed near town killing six people; this event helped spur growth in Hickory Hills. In 1925, Hickory Hills became an incorporated municipality with a population of 3,000 residents. In 1957 it merged with neighbouring Niles Township to form Niles-Hickory Hill Township. The merger made Hicksville an unincorporated township again with a population of 910 residents but did not change the name of the city to Hickory Hills because incorporation would have required approval from both cities. In 2000, following passage of state law allowing for annexation by municipalities over 10 thousand residents (rather than just those within city limits), Hicksville annexed much larger portions of neighboring Aurora Heights and Downers Grove; these annexations increased its population to 21,898 by 2010 estimate
Hickory Hills was founded in 1827 by Colonel Nathaniel Hickory. The town grew rapidly and by 1839 it had a population of 3,000. Hickory Hills became a popular tourist destination with its beautiful architecture and natural resources. In the late 1800s, Hickory Hills experienced a growth in its African American community. This was due to the efforts of local entrepreneur John Fenton who helped to grow the town's economy and provide opportunities for black residents. In 1907, Fenton donated land to build an all-black public school in Hickory Hills. The school continued to be used until 1963 when it was replaced by integrate high school which still stands today.
