Hickory Hills is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded in 1858 by John Hickory and his family. The community is located on the east side of Chicago. Hickory Hills has a population of about 9,000 people. The first settlers to Hickory Hills were John Hickory, his wife Sarah, and their three children: Samuel, Edward and Rebecca. In 1858, when John HickORY established the town site on the banks of the Chicago River, he named it for hickory trees that grew nearby on his farmstead. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Illinois; this event stimulated large-scale migration from rural to urban areas throughout the state of Illinois as news spread of the tragedy in America. Many farmers who had grown crops near downtown Chicago moved their families to new homes in or near Hickory Hills so they could be close to history and mourning. In 1922, Mayor James Kapp assigned Drury Elliott to design a new civic center for Hickory Hills which would replace an aging structure that had been used for school purposes since 1892. The new building was completed in 1928 and served as home court for both the city’s high school basketball team and local football teams until1999 when it was replaced by Wauconda High School’s current gymnasium/religion room complex (now known as “The Glen”). It also served as home court for many other sporting events over its years including all-star games between NBA players Michael Jordan & Scottie Pippen & International Champions Cup soccer tournaments featuring world champion Barcelona FC etc including some memorable matchups like Northwestern vs Indiana State 1984 NCAA Champion #1 “Big Hoss” Richard Meehan VS Drake University 1992 NAIA National Champion #19 Marquette Golden Eagles 1985 IHSAA Stateampion #5 Starke United HS 1985)

Hickory Hills, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. Hickory Hills was named for the hickory tree that grows in the town. Hickory Hills is located on the banks of the North Fork of the White River. The first settlers in Hickory Hills were David and Nancy Smith who came to live in 1809. The Smiths founded a store and post office in what is now Hickory Hills. In 1836, John Fenton bought land from the Smiths and built a sawmill and gristmill on his farm near present-day Hickory Hill Elementary School. By 1840, most of present-day Hickory Hills had been settled by farmers from other parts of McLean County. In 1846, James Prentice built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river near today's intersection of State Route 64 and Old Hwy 508. Prentice became known as "the Father of HickORY HILLS." He donated many acres to make up what are now Hickory Hill Township, Mclean County, IL., including what is now central part of modern-day Hicksville. In 1850, Nathan Sargent arrived from Decatur county, Illinois with his family to homestead on what are now Wabash Avenue and Main Street in Hicksville (present day downtown Hicksville). In 1851–1852 Prentice organized an early settler group called "The Masons" which helped build two primary churches—First Presbyterian Church (now Central Methodist Episcopal Church) and Second Baptist Churches—in Hicksville: First Presbyterian Church (now Central Methodist Episcopal Church) was consecrated on February 22nd,. 1851; Second Baptist Churches were consecrated September 12th,. 1852 A millrace was carved out around present-day Damen Creek for water flow into Lake Michigan by farmer Adam Pease in 1830s when land east of current day Orleans Road began flowing more easily under ice due to newly formed glacial moraines What are today Maple Brook Drive/Washington Boulevard NE & I-94 interchange ramps were graded & diverted south at US 40 so that highway could run east then northeasterly along bluffs north then easterly through present day Clarksburg before turning southwesterly across old US 40 at crossed creek bed just west of Amherst Rd
