In 1951, when it first formed as a town, Hickory Hills had only five residents: Elijah and John Hickory themselves (the founders), their wives Jeannine and Maynard Ritchie (both natives of North Carolina), their son-in-law George Prentice (of Ohio), and daughter Gladys Prentice (born in 1924). By 1998 there were just over 100 people living in Hickory Hill – almost all local residents or descendants of local residents who had moved or died since then!

Hickory Hills is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,363 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit the area were French traders in the early 17th century. Hickory Hills grew up around a wood that was cut down for charcoal near what is now Wicker Park and North Avenue in 1836 by John Pemberton and his brother-in-law, Zachariahshorty after they discovered an extensive grove of hickories near their farmstead on Shawangauk Road. Pemberton named the new settlement after his friend and business partner Joseph Hickory (1759–1834), who had come to Illinois in 1800 as one of General James Kaskaski's outposts on the Great Lakes region. A post office called Hickory Grove was established in 1837, but it closed within a year due to lack of customers. Hickory Hills began to grow rapidly with its own schools and churches starting up around 1840. By 1850, there were over 100 residents living in Hickory Grove; by 1860, there were over 300 residents . In 1870s secondary trade then developed along what are now Winnetka Avenue and Lemoyne Street which served as the main access roads into Chicago from rural areas east of Lake Michigan. However, this economic development did not last long due to technological advances that made transportation easier and faster than ever before combined with cheaper labor from abroad which undercut local prices for goods produced hereabouts. Thanks also to railroad construction throughout Cook County during this time period – including through Hickory Hills – many businesses became multi-national entities such as Sears Roebuck & Company and International Harvester Co./Oneida Central Railroad etc., thus contributing significantly to the growth of HickORY HILLS! In recent decades some aspects both residential (such as zoning changes allowing more single family homes) as well as commercial (elevated streetlights) have experienced renewed interest while overall much infrastructure has been maintained or added since 2000 when satellite imagery captured images dating back to 1957 showed barely any active forest remaining within Community boundaries making it possible finallyto assess all that has taken place since that date!
