Hickory Hills is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 831 at the 2010 census. Hickory Hills is located on the north side of Chicago, and is bordered to the east by Skokie Heights and to the west by Winnetka. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Hickory Hills was Nicholas Fenton, who arrived in 1836 from England. Fenton named his community Hickory Hill after a small hardwood tree he saw near his home. In 1852, John C. Hendricks bought land here and began to build a house which still stands today – now known as Hendricks House Museum No. 2. When Illinois became a state in 1868, Hendricks donated all of his property to the state for use as a schoolhouse and playground. This gave Hickory Hills its name – "the State School District's prettiest town". In 1870, two brothers named Edward Aiken bought some more land from Hendricks for $100 per acre (2 km²). They began to develop what would become Hinsdale into a large suburb of Chicago with brick homes and brownstones lining Milwaukee Avenue between Wabash Avenue and Clybourn Avenue; it was called Aiken Park after them both brothers'. The Aiken boys also built many churches throughout their area including Holy Cross Catholic Church on Wabash avenue across from McCormick Place (now FirstMerit Bank), Saint Joseph’s Episcopal Church on Pulaski Road just south of Cicero Avenue (now Southern Illinois University Carbondale), Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish on Halsted Street just north of Kedzie Boulevard (now Fordham University) - these are all still standing today! When World War II hit America, many people decided they needed somewhere safe to go while their families were away fighting – so they came back home or moved away again and again over the next few decades until Hickory Hills had its own post-war boom when people started returning full time again! In 1959, Dick Goodman created The Goodman Corporation here which manufactured air-purifiers/ozone generators/heaters etc., until 1998 when it merged with Electrolux Corporation to create Electrolux Wholesale Corporation. With such growth comes prices rise accordingly with little change in quality or services offered anywhere within that radius! People have always been creative here – one example being The Goodman Company’s development of The Old Hickories Restaurant which opened up in 1951 serving American-ized European cuisine right out front across from Sears Tower! Roads have been widened here like Halsted Street which runs through town proper parallel with Milwaukee Avenue becoming “The streets you see downtown have been widened because there has always been demand for more traffic flow through our town” says village planner Donny Kosinski . There are even golf courses popping up all over central Illinois like Northbrook Farms Golf Course outside Schaumburg on Lake Michigan Shoreline Drive just northwest of LaPorte City Limits while Stonington Landing Golf Club & Resort & Spa offers amazing panoramic views looking out over DeKalb County down into southern Indiana provide plenty else for residents living close by too whether playing polo or fishing during warmer months! And don't forget about Applebees restaurants called "Applebee's" dotting every intersection imaginable throughout this lovely farming community where locals gather each weekend afternoon eagerly awaiting their favorite menu item ready for consumption before heading off back into their lives Sunday evening…not that anyone really does anything Saturday night anymore 🙂

Hickory Hills is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,975 at the 2010 census. The Village of Hickory Hills was organized on November 3, 1882 by Act of the General Assembly. It was named for John L. Hickory who had come to the area in 1867 as part of a group of settlers that included his brother-in-law and future Congressman Elijah Parish Hogg from Lebanon, Tennessee. The first post office was established at Hickory Hill on February 14, 1883. The first store in Hickory Hills opened its doors in 1886 and it continued to be the only business until 1912 when a second store opened next door. In 1896, an addition was built to the original building which housed a grocery and feed store until 1914 when it became known as the Masonic Hall. In 1928, additional buildings were added to the village including a library and auditorium which served as both local government headquarters and cultural center until 1959 when they were torn down and replaced with new facilities which still serve as community college annexes today. In 1902 Mayor Wm Epps announced plans for a shopping center adjacent to Grove Park across from McCormick Place whereupon more than 100 businesses donated money towards its construction which began in 1904 but never finished due to funding shortages duringWorld War I. After years of planning and fundraising efforts that saw many residents leave for other villages throughout Cook County because of high taxes coupled with lack of job opportunities within Huber Heights (Hickory Hills' primary neighbor), work finally began on what would become Hickory Hills' first public shopping mall on December 12, 1954 following dedication by then-Mayor John Jankowski over lunch with representatives from most of Chicago's large businesses who contributed $2 million towards itscreation
