One of the most important events in Hazel Crest's early history took place when Anna May Fuller donated land to make way for a public school system in 1875. This donation helped spur further growth within the community and set it apart from other towns near Chicago at that time. In 1907, Hazel Crest became one of twenty townships in Cook County selected to become part of its new "Illinois Township System." Today, Hazel Crest continues to thrive as an important community within Cook County and Illinois itself - home to some of Chicagoland's most notable businesses and residences alike!

The first store was built on what is now Main Street. In 1895, the town was annexed by Chicago and the original grocery store closed. In 1902, the town became a community center when it was donated by Dr. Jens Jensen to serve as an education center for young people in the area. In 1951, Hazel Crest was merged with neighboring Willowbrook to form Willowbrook-Hazel Crest Township. In 1984, Willowbrook-Hazel Crest Township was divided into two sections: Hazel Crest Township (north) and Park Ridge Township (south). Park Ridge Township continued to be called Willowcroft until 1990 when it changed its name to Hazel Crest after Jim Jepsen's death during a business trip there from Illinois State University. Today, Hazel Crest is home to many businesses including Dooley's ice cream parlor which has been open since 1938; The Sears Roebuck & Co flagship store opened in 1990; Jack Wolfskin boots are also located here; Andruzzi's Italian restaurant offers food service throughout most of Illinois while also having a full bar inside which offers wine selection as well as beer selections;and Eveready produces gasoline here under several brands such as Shell gas station across from Andruzzi's Italian restaurant which gift certificates can be purchased for use at other local stores
