Hazel Crest was founded by Samuel Proctor in 1871 as a wagon farmstead on what is now known as Proctor Road near modern day Mayfair Drive. In 1875, Proctor's son-in-law Julius Kapp set up a mill on the stream that ran through his land and built a house to serve as his millinery shop and home until 1911 when he sold it to Elisha Bakewell who renamed it Hazel Crest House. In 1926, Harry Sanger established himself as a grocery storekeeper with three stores - one across the street from The Hazel Creek School (now part of Parkview Elementary) and two along Main Street which later became home to Hometown Dairy & Provision Store (now known as Grocery Outlet). By 1930 there were six businesses in attendance with over 50 employees - four grocery stores, three hardware stores and one restaurant/barber shop. In 1950s and 1960s residents of Hazel Crest began moving into new subdivisions outside of town beginning with Winchester Oaks which eventually took over most of what was left of downtown Holly Dale once both communities merged in 1968. From then until 2000 or so life ebbed and flowed within much smaller boundaries within which most people knew their neighbors primarily through church activities or personal visits rather than having formalized social ties outside of village life In recent years however things have started to change again with concerns about crime rates within walking distance of many homes; robberies have increased significantly since 2015; Mayor McMahon has called for increased police patrols aroundtown during high school basketball games league games; online dating has become increasingly popular among older adults living close by while also providing opportunities for more serious relationships; overall growth rates seem generally positive but some caution must be taken given economic volatility among small villages such as these

Hazel Crest is a small community in McLean County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1868 by George Washington Hazel and his wife Charity. The village grew around the Hazel Crest School, which operated from 1868 to 1951. In the early 21st century, Hazel Crest was struggling financially and its population had decreased significantly; however, it has since regained some of its former glory as a small town with a rich history. The first settlers to Hazel Crest were George Washington Hazel and his wife Charity. They arrived on horseback from Kentucky in February of 1868. The Halesons were the only family to settle in what is now McLean County. For years, they farmed their land and raised livestock. By 1870, their farm had two homes and sixty-six acres of land.[1] In 1871, the Halesons donated one hundred acres (40 hectares) of their land to be used for a school district.[2] The first Hazel Crest School opened in October of that year.[3] At that time, there were just six families living in what is now McLean County – four of whom lived within the present-day boundaries of Hazel Crest Village[4]: George Washington Hazel himself; his three daughters Charity; Fannie Mae Linebaugh;[5] while John Linebaugh located about five miles northeast on Ulysses S Grant Highway (now I-635).[6][7] At that time,[8][9] only taxpayers could help fund schools:[10] this system continued until 1971 when state funding became available for all districts statewide.[11][12][13][14][15]. The next phase for the development of Hazel Crest began in 1893 when Rev. Denton Weems purchased eighty-five acres (35 hectares) from the Halesons for $600 ($30 per acre).[16] He built an Episcopal church onsite which still stands today: Reverend Weems’ Churchyard Chapel Today contains an impressive Gothic Revival style limestone facade dating back to 1913[17]. Reverend Weems' gift also financed other important infrastructure projects such as Schools #1 & #2 which opened in 1896 and 1902 respectively,[18];[19],[20]- these new schools included a library,[21], playgrounds,[22], water tower,[23]- as well as roads leading into the village such as Highways 5 & 6 which served both local residents and outlying farmers during those days before Interstate highways came along 50 years later!Revd Mr Weems passed away suddenly at age 83 after many years service at Hazel Crest School Districtzensia Park
Hazel Crest was founded in 1871 by John and Ellen Gould. The Goulds were original settlers in the area and named their home Hazel Crest after a hazelnut tree they saw on their farm. The family prospered in farming until the early 1900s, when they lost their land to consolidation. In 1916, the Goulds donated all of their land to Hazel Crest Township.
