Hazel Crest, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 5,021 as of the 2010 census. Hazel Crest is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The name "Hazel Crest" originated from a Native American word meaning "a place to gather nuts." The first settler in what is now Hazel Crest was John Gentry who came to the area in 1836. In 1853, J.C. Richardson erected a sawmill on the Hawkeye River and named it Hazel Crest after his mother's maiden name. In 1868, David Hinsdale purchased the mill and renamed it Hazelwood Manufacturing Company; he also founded an agricultural society which became known as The Hinsdale-Clayton Agricultural Society. In 1902, Clarence Wickham purchased the mill from David Hinsdale and changed it into a paper manufacturing company called Wickham Paper Company (later Orchard Paper Corporation). At that time, Hazelwood Manufacturing Company became known as Orchard Paper Corporation; however, by 1906 Orchard Paper Corporation had merged with United States Paper Corp., making it one of the largest paper companies in America. On July 1st 1915, United States Paper Corp., along with several other paper companies including Eastern Kentucky Pulp and Paper Co., merged into General Electric Company to form GEICO plc.; this merger created an empire that would last until 1987 when United States Steel Corporation overtook GEICO as America's leading steel producer. In 1920-1921, Hutson Printing & Publishing changed its name to Hicks Publishing Co.; this change reflected George Hicks' ownership of 10% of the company at that time. In 1928-29 Hickerson Printing & Publishing merged with Dutch Press Publications Incorporated (DPI) which then became publishing subsidiary of American Typecasting Corporation (ATC). ATC was formed when Bethlehem Steel Corporation acquired Alloys and Casting Laboratories Incorporated (A&CL) which manufactured cast iron casting products for various industrial users including foundries, machine shops and plastic manufacturers among others during this period; Bethlehem Steel also owned 20% of DPI which made ATC one of the largest typecasting corporations in America at that point At some point between 1951-1955 Cramer Realty Trust bought out Hicks Publishing Co.'s interest in DPI for $1 million dollars; Cramer operated DPI as their personal real estate holdings until their sale to Brown Brothers Harriman LLP in 1984 whereupon DPI reverted back to its original name: Hicks Broadcasting Co.; operations continued through 1992 when DHX Media bought out Brown Brothers Harriman LLP's interest in DPI which eventually led to DHX Media owning all assets/operations related thereto including HD Radio Network properties terrestrial or satellite

Hazel Crest is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 931 at the 2010 census. It was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1909. Hazel Crest is located in the east-central portion of the Chicago metropolitan area and is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin Combined Statistical Area. The first town in Cook County was Hamburg, founded by German immigrants in 1836. After they were driven out of that town by Native Americans, they established a new settlement called Hazel Crest on a bluff overlooking the Calumet River. The name came from two important maple trees near where the city now stands. In 1856, John Denton built what is now known as Denton Hall on land that he had bought from French Canadian Pierre Lacroix for $1 million dollars (a record at the time). Denton became an early settler in Hazel Crest and developed it into one of Cook County's most prominent landowners and entrepreneurs. He also served as its mayor from 1892 to 1896 and as its first recorder from 1895 to 1899. Denton died in 1925, aged 93 years; but his legacylived on through his daughter Betty Denton McAfee who served as executive director of women's affairs at Loyola UniversityChicago until her retirement in 2003. One of her many accomplishments during her tenure was working to break down barriers between men and women while also implementing radical changes within the school system which included opening more doors for girls than ever before- including allowing them to major in science and mathematics! In recognition of her work during this time period she was awarded their prestigious President's Award which acknowledges excellence within professional institutions across America!
