Harvey is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 31,873 at the 2010 census. Harvey is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by the towns of Downers Grove to the east and Northbrook to the west. The first settler in Harvey was Nicholas Fenton who arrived on May 10, 1814. The original village plat was filed on November 15, 1815 with a population of four settlers: Nicholas Fenton (leader), John Eaton (farmer), Amos Morse (butterman) and Timothy White (laborer).Fenton donated land for a school from his farmstead and other local farmers soon followed suit. A plank road was built through what is now Harvey in 1823 which served as an important artery for goods travelling between Chicago and Joliet. In 1830, James Prentice platted Harveytown which became a thriving community with over 100 residents In 1835, Enos Webster purchased 9 acres of land north of present-day Curryville Road from Nicholas Fenton for $223 cash only Webster began developing this new land into what would become Harveytown. He named it after his native state – Iowa – since he had connections there and felt that its potential as a commercial center justified its name change In 1840, Josiah Higginson settled in Harveytown along with his wife Hannah Higginson Higginson founded the firstFX company in Illinois – The Harveys Manufacturing Company – located here until 1865 when it moved to Aurora Illinois . In 1850 during the American Civil War , about 20 homes were destroyed by fire near present day Union Station . Residents rebuilt quickly using local materials and labor
