In 1871, Harvey was the first town in Illinois to adopt a municipal gun lubrication ordinance. The ordinance stated that all firearms must be lubricated “whenever it is reasonable to do so” and required that oil be used to clean and protect firearms. Gunowners were also responsible forchecking the oil level of their firearms every month. The ordinance was repealed in 1933 but the practice of regularly cleaning and lubricating firearms continued until the early 1970s when guns began being banned in Illinois.

In 1949, Harvey passed away and his son, Harry H. Harrington Sr., took over the business. In 1978, Harry H. Harrington Jr.'s grandson, Barry J. Harrington, started the company's current operations. Harvey is a small town in McLean County, Illinois. It is located in the northwestern corner of the state, and has a population of about 5,000. The Harvey-Boyd School District serves Harvey. The town was named for John Harvey (1806-1892), an early settler who built a log cabin on the east side of the current town square in 1827. The Harvey-Boyd School District was organized in 1902, and was named for Hiram Boyd (1853-1911), one of its first trustees. Boyd had been superintendent of schools for Cook County, Illinois before coming to Harvey. The present school district was formed from a part of the original Harvey school board which operated from 1897 to 1902. In 1907, construction began on the first high school building in Harvey, which was completed in 1909. The $5,000 cost was paid by local farmers and citizens through private subscription. The new high school served as the primary educational facility for both students and teachers until it burned down in 1951; however, it still stands as a historical landmark adjacent to the original square today. Today, there are three elementary schools - Harding Elementary School (K-6), Clifford Elementary School (7-12), and North Central Elementary School (3-8) - two middle schools - Harrison Middle School (9-12) and South Central Middle School (1-4) - as well as two high schools: Harveyshire High Schools (9th grade through 12th grade) and Jameson High Schools (13th through 16th grade). Two churches also serve residents: First Congregational Church is located just north of downtown while Second Congregational Church is located east of downtown across from Hoover Dam National Monument

As technology improved, so did gun lubrication techniques; however, there remained some limitations to how well these techniques could be applied in practical terms due to various factors such as material incompatibility and temperature differences among firearm parts/components.

Today, Harvey is a small town with a population of approximately 350 residents that includes many businesses and services related to agriculture and fishing.
On November 8, 1848, Harvey was founded by Jesse Winchester and his brother James. The first house in the town was built on a lot that is now the old post office. The town was named after Gen. John Harvey who had been killed in battle near Chicago on October 15, 1847.
