When John was eighteen years old, he decided to move to the city and start a new life. He went to the city of Chicago and started his own business. John soon realized that Chicago was an extremely dangerous place to live. He decided to move back to Harvey and continue running his farm. One day in 1885, John's grandson, Harry, came over from California looking for work on the farm. Harry had been working on the farm since he was twelve years old. After meeting Harry, John took him into the house and told him about his business opportunities in Chicago. Harry decided that this would be his future path and left home to start his own business career in Chicago at age twenty-one! John continued running the farm until 1896 when he passed away at age eighty-six years old. His legacy still lives on today! The Harvey Farm continues to produce quality hay and cattle products since 1896!

Harvey is still a vibrant community today with many residents working hard to keep everything running smoothly- from policing services to economic development opportunities.
