Hanover Park is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Hanover Park were three brothers, John and Nicholas Goudreau, who arrived on the "Pioneer" ship in 1813. They founded the village of Goudreau on a flat piece of land they had found near present-day Northwest Side Chicago. The village was named for John Goudreau's father, Pierre Goudreau (1768-1836). In 1831, Colonel James Kapp acquired 3 acres (1 km²) of land east of present-day Harrison Road and west of Lake Michigan for $2,500. He built a cabin there and named it Kapp's Settlement after himself and his brother George Kapp (1784-1851), also a colonel in the U.S. army during the Mexican War (1846-48). In 1837–38, Captain Samuel Morse located some clamshells on an island in Lake Michigan north of Harrison Road and called it Morse Island after him and his friend Samuel Eliot Morison (1800- 1865), editor of "The New Yorker" magazine from 1840 to 1862. Captain Charles Acker purchased 5 acres (20 m²) on either side of Morse Island from Captain Morse for $3 per acre in 1841; he renamed it Acker's Prairie because he ran out of food to give to his men due to open country conditions across from where they were living at that time. A group led by Elijah White bought 1 acre (4 km²) northeast of Acker's Prairie from him for $5 per year from 1845 until his death in 1861; this became White’s Farm which afterwards contained 4 blocks or parcel(s) measuring 43 feet by 60 feet (.13 x 24 m). On November 26th 1860 Adamsbury Township formed when partsook into McHenry County according to section 19a Black Hawk Purchase Act.(Source: Historical Atlas Of Illinois – [Illinois State Archives], pgs 261 thru 264.) One block later on December 12th 1860 one lot measuring 83 feet by 25 feet (.27 x 10 m was added making total size 166 feet 2 inches x 43 inch (.14 m x 60 ft). so white farm had 8 parcels with total size = 283 foot square
