The first post office in Hanover Park was established on November 7, 1872. The name of the post office changed to Hanover Park on January 3, 1903. The first school in Hanover Park was built on May 12, 1876 and it served as the only primary school until 1923 when a new school building was built. It closed its doors on December 15th of that year due to lack of students and money being available to keep it open. A new high school called John F Kennedy High School opened in 1985 and continues to serve as the only senior high school forhanover park residents today despite having been demolished in 2006 due to budget cuts by Kane County government officials.. In September 2006 a $2 million grant from the state ofIllinois allowed local leaders to renovate and reopen John F Kennedy High School as an arts and technology center with a full-time music teacher and chorus director/coach program which has now reopened after more than 10 years with classes starting back up on Monday mornings!

After WWI ended America resumed normalcy living peacfully side by side with other nations but continuing this approach we experienced another world war starting out again unrelated to Europe – Korean Conflict! On September 25th 1950 our country went through another traumatic event when my grandfather passed away suddenly followed shortly thereafter by my grandmother who also passed away suddenly making him just 63 years old! As peace continued to reign throughout these difficult times my parents tried their best not let their children feel like they had lost something very special……….. ultimately weathered all those storms together eventually becoming proud parents ourselves!!! On January 6th 2002 we held our second anniversary commemoration service at Our Lady Of Peace Parish Chapel where many local dignitaries attended including Mayor Richard M Daley….. marking a milestone for HanoverPark since then!!!!!
Hanover Park was founded in 1837 by John and Catherine Hanover. The original home of the Hanover family, which still stands today on the north side of Hanover Park, was built on a parcel of land that had been donated by Nicholas de la Grange. The house is an example of Federal architecture and is one of several surviving examples from the first wave of American settlers in Illinois. The park was originally called simply "Hanover Park." It was renamed to its current name in 1907 after George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon, Virginia. In 1938, the City of Chicago designated Hanover Park as a national historic district.
