Hanover Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Hanover Park were German-speaking farmers who arrived from Alsace-Lorraine in the mid-19th century. They named their land "Hanover Park" after Prince Frederick Augustus of Saxony, son of Emperor Wilhelm I and his wife Augusta of Hesse and by Rhine. In 1892, the Village of Hanover Park was incorporated as a village with a population of 499. The name change came about because most residents then lived on or near Halsted Street and North Avenue in downtown Chicago. The first post office opened in Hanover Park on May 12, 1892. In 1907, George Pullman organized the Pullman Company's Illinois Railway Administration which became known as Pullman Incorporated. His company built the Illinois Central Railroad betweenChicago and Joliet junction (now Metra Station). He donated land to build an interchange for the railroad on West Side Highway (now State Street) near what is now Loop 3755 Wanda Dr., where he had his home since childhood.(the current day intersection between State Street and Wanda Dr.) Other early donors included Samuel Morse Sr.; John Drexel; Charles Evans Hughes; Abraham Lincoln Jr.; Edward Everett Hale; Cornelius Vanderbilt Cushing; Julius Rosenwald; Fenton Osborn; Arthur Holmquist ; Rudolph Weingartner (founder CEO of AIG). In 1916, when World War I began, President Woodrow Wilson ordered all American companies to contribute money to help finance war efforts.(they did this through stock markets) After Germany entered into World War I on April 6th 1914 without consulting any other countries(including America), America declared war on Germany two days later((April 10th)), resulting in 400 million dollars being given to America alone($ more than ever before given out during a single conflict)(this was also called "The Gilded Age"). At that time there were no banks or checking accounts so people had to hand over everything they had ($30 per family at that time). This gave rise to rumors that America was giving away too much money for no good reason((the rumor started because some businesses got preferential treatment)). Because so much money was being given away without proper planning it resulted in many people getting rich quick ((many not from typical backgrounds like working hard)) . After World War I ended there was economic consolidation which led to layoffs at various companies throughout Illinois including Hanover Park's Bethlehem Steel Corporation(owned by GE). Many men lost their jobs but some chose instead to start their own businesses((They are typically called ' entrepreneurial' ). entrepreneurs often have strong families who support them financially) . In 1923 Harry Kessler founded Kessler & Sons Insurance Agency which became one of Chicago's largest insurance firms with over $2 billion in assets under management as of 2007

Hanover Park was founded on November 15, 1847 by George Washington Carver and his wife Rachel Jacobs Carver as a farmstead for their two children. George Washington Carver's father had been born in what is now Hanover Park and had moved to this area when he was only a child. George Washington Carver became an agriculturist and then moved to Peoria in 1875 to start his own business there. He also developed some of the first land in Hanover Park; these include many acres near present-day Lincolnwood Cemetery. In 1886, he married Rachel Jacobs Carver (1848-1925), who had been born in nearby Mount Prospect, Illinois. They raised six children: four sons and two daughters. AfterRachel Jacobs' death in 1925, one son continued the family agriculture operation while another went into politics; both men died before they could be elected to office themselves. The village of Hanover Park formed on December 2nd, 1926 from portions of Griggsville and neighboring townships with a population of 3,000+. It became official with a meeting held that day at Griggsville's Masonic Lodge No 1 & 2 following ratification of its charter by the Village Council which consisted of eleven citizens total: seven men and three women (the first female member of any village or township body). On January 7th 1937 Village President Mrs John Pritchard made history when she became the first woman mayor of any U .S . Village or Township ever having functioned as such! TheVillage has since undergone many name changes including “Hanover Park” on October 15th 1957 after being designated as one half mile wide byIllinois State Highway Commissioners upon Request from Mayor J .Pritchard herself! Today it remains one Of America’s Most Unique Villages!
Hanover Park was a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was located on the north side of the Chicago River. The population of Hanover Park was 9,818 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in what is now Hanover Park were Samuel and Deborah Fishback, who bought land from the federal government for $2 per acre in 1838. They named their new community after Prince George's County, Maryland, where they had been born and raised. The Fishbacks were among the earliest farmers in Cook County and also served as town officials. In 1845 they sold their holdings to John Fenton, who established a mill here that still stands today. By 1860 Hanover Park had a school, post office, store and two churches; it also included an acreage for agricultural purposes. In 1871 local resident Amos Kendall donated land to build a public square which would house a library and other civic amenities. The square developed into what is now Hanover Park Recreation Area; it remains one of the most popular areas in town today for recreation and education alike. In 1898-99 changes were made to the area around Chicago's Flushing Meadows Corona park by Mayor Edward Byrne as part of his "New Town Plan." One result was that much of what is now south of I-290 became part of Hanover Park although some homes remain there (e.g., Mrs. Haggerty's home on Wacker Drive). The last resident left Hanover Park on December 31st 1978 when its last Post Office closed its doors with over 60 years history!
