Hanover Park was a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 985 at the 2000 census. It is now part of the city of Wheaton. The first settler in what would become Hanover Park was John Kapp who moved to the area in 1849. At that time, Kane County was only a small enclave within Chicago Territory. By 1850, there were over fifty settlers living in and around what would become Hanover Park. The first Methodist church located inHanover Park was built in 1859 by Rev. Wm Hays and dedicated to the memory of his mother who had died young while serving as an Observer for her congregation in nearby Crystal Lake. The original building still stands today and is used as a meeting hall by the present day Methodist Church of Wheaton congregation. When Chicago annexed Kane County on March 4, 1873, it included part of Danville Township which lay just west of where Hanover Park now sits. As part of the annexation agreement, Chi-town agreed to transfer all land east of Racine Avenue (now known as Prospect Heights) back to Danville Township—including much of what is now Hanover Park—in order to create larger town center blocks which could be developed into market towns or villages according to plans prepared by representatives from Chi-town and organized through a special committee chaired by Mayor Daniel Buell (1863–1868). Hanover Park's incorporation as a village took place on November 8, 1875; at that time its population numbered 753 residents out of a total Village population estimated at 1,500+ (). In 1904 when Cook County merged with Kane County, all but one block south of Racine Avenue became part Of Chicago; however this block including most if not allof Hanover Park remained within Cook County until it too merged with Iași on February 17th 1959 when both counties were divided among seven new cities: Elmhurst (Iași), Hennepin (Helsinki), Oak Lawn (Oak Lawn Heights/Lisle), River Forest (River Forest Hills/Bartlett), Rockford (Rockford Hills/Lisle) and Streamwood (Streamwood Heights/Lisle).
Hanover Park was once a small village in the township of Hanover, in Cook County, Illinois. It was established in 1859 by John C. Dearborn and his wife, Sarah Ann Dearborn. The Dearborns operated a general store and farm there until their death in 1916. The Village passed into private hands until it was sold to the city of Chicago in 1924. In 1951, the City of Chicago merged with the Township of Hanover to form the City of Chicago.
