Hanover Park, Illinois is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,787 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Hanover Park is located on the southern edge of Kane County and about 20 minutes east of downtown Chicago. The village was organized in 1868 as a result of an act of the General Assembly which authorized the annexation by Kane County of all that now forms Algonquin Township and part of Cook County. The first settlers arrived in 1869 and by 1875 there were 327 people living in what would become Hanover Park. The Village growth during its early years was led by two factors: its location within walking distance fromChicago's most important commercial district and its close proximity to several railroad lines which allowed for large-scale farming operations. During World War II, much manufacturing took place within the limits of Hanover Park including munitions production at John Deere Company and aircraft production at Peachtree Air Force Base; however, few homes were built subsequent to 1945 due to post-war housing rationing policies." In 1960, when Hanover Park became a police department it had only 6 officers; today it has over 100 employees providing law enforcement services throughout Kane County as well as assistance with fire suppression and environmental duty. In addition to law enforcement duties, Hanover Park's ambulance service provides medical care to citizens who are injured or ill outside their home or business

Hanover Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Hanover Park was founded in 1837 by John Troup and his family as a small community on the east side of Chicago. The name derived from nearby Harvard College where John Troup had been educated. In 1838, the village became incorporated as part of Chicago and the name was changed to Hanover Park after George Washington's estate in Virginia. After being annexed by Cook County in 1847, Hanover Park grew rapidly due to its location within easy commuting distance of downtownChicago and its rich agricultural history. The first post office in Hanover Park opened on February 12, 1850. The village flourished until World War II when it suffered significant damage from bombing raids by American forces during the war effort. From 1945-1946,Hanover Park experienced a rapid growth as suburbanites moved into the area for economic reasons due to new developments such as Northwestern University's Arboretum and Loyola University Chicago's Medical School adjacent to their campuses. Due to this growth, attendance at local schools decreased which resulted in a large need for transportation options that led to construction of new roads and bridges throughout much of the Village including: Archer Road (1948), Ontario Boulevard (1951), Wabash Avenue (1959), Kedzie Avenue (1963), Harrison Drive (1965) and current Michigan Avenue (1983). Since then, many new homes have been built near Kedzie Avenue making it one of North America’s fastest growing municipalities with over 100% increases since 2000 according to Forbes magazine Today, much like when it first came together as a town official entity some 165 years ago - HanoverPark remains committed to its core values while also embracing change through partnerships with surrounding communities including: Midtown Chicago; Lincoln Yards; Evanston; Oakland Hills; Harper Woods; Schaumburg Highlands; Hinsdale Southwestern School District #1-Kensington Center & Woodridge High School #2 & Montrose Middle School #3 - all located within walking or biking distance form each other creating an increasingly connected city center anchored by government agencies and commercial districts .
Hanover Park was founded in 1881 by Judge Augustus M. Kelley and his wife, Sarah Jane. The first store opened on the property in 1884. In 1898, the Kelley's built a home on the property that still stands today. The town of Hanover Park was chartered in 1903 and became a part of Chicago in 1912.
