Gurnee, Illinois is an agricultural town located in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. Gurnee is home to the Gurnee Research and Development Center and three high schools: Gurnee North High School, Gurnee South High School, and Beloit Central High School. In 2012, Forbes named Gurnee one of "The Best Places to Live in America." More recently, it has been ranked as one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States by Forbes Magazine. Some of the first settlers in what is now Gurnee were farmers from Holland who came to this area between 1810 and 1815. They grew corn, beans and other crops until a nearby dam was built in 1824 which changed their lives forever. The first wave of immigrants from Ireland arrived around 1830 followed by Germans in 1840-1860; Italian immigrants arrived during the 1860s; Poles began arriving during World War II; Slavic immigrants started arriving after communism was declared illegal in 1918; Asians began arriving after 1945 when restrictions were placed on white immigration under President Harry S Truman's executive order (1948). Today, most residents are American Indian or Hispanic with some European ancestry too. There are also a few African Americans who have lived here for generations. Most people here speak English as their primary language although Spanish is also common. The town was incorporated as a village on December 20th, 1872. On November 15th of that year they held a referendum to annex into Chicago so they could have more control over their Village government but only received 25% of the vote! The following year they held another referendum which passed with 100% support to annex into Chicago! This annexation happened because Chicago decided not to renew theVillage's charter due to lack of funds which caused many difficulties for both villages during the early 1900s when city services were scarce due to prohibitionism efforts by Mayor John Haggerty (1901-05). In 1951 City Council enacted Resolution No 2D6643 establishing that all agencies within boundaries defined by R2D6643 should be divided equally between Village and City entities including fire departments/emergency vehicles/ Streets Department etc.; providing for review every five years thereafter with recommendations for expansion or contraction based upon changes within boundaries

Gurnee, Illinois is a small town located in the northwest quadrant of Cook County, Illinois. Gurnee was platted on December 6, 1871 by James M. Gurnee and his brother, Amos W. Gurnee. The present day town was first named "New Market" after the new market that had been built near where it now stands. The name was changed to "Gurnee" on November 15, 1881 by order of the General Assembly due to objections from other villages in Cook County with similar names and because it took longer for mail to get there than for people to pronounce it. The village of Newmarket was created as part of the annexation of Gurnee on February 5, 1886 and became a separate municipality under its own laws and government. On March 1, 1907, the village of Newmarket merged into Gurnee proper. On July 16, 1916 GurnEE incorporated as a city with a population of 1401 when all but three wards were annexed into Chicago by Act 327 of 1916 creating what is now known as Chicago's 3rd ward (the remaining two wards were added to Evanston following their incorporation). With its own police department and fire department (still extant as an independent agency today), GURNEE quickly became one of Chicago's most important cities - although still relatively small in comparison to other municipalities in the city limits. During World War II many residents left their homes in order to serve within the military or contribute during wartime times; this included many who would later return home and live in O'Hare airport or suburban areas nearby until they could finally retire at 65 years old or younger - something which has not always been possible for those living near large urban areas like Chicago or Milwaukee during peacetime times such as recent decades! GURNEE has seen some difficult times over recent years including several riots between its citizens early last decade followed by increased crime rates; however these have since tapered off somewhat with most incidents taking place within close-knit communities rather than outside addraces like at earlier stages throughout history!
