The first firearms were designed and built in Gurnee, Illinois in 1857. The town was founded by a group of farmers who became interested in bringing gunpowder and other weaponry to the area. One of the early gunsbuilders in Gurnee was John Fenton, who developed the first breech-loading rifle. In 1858, he and his brother erected the first local shooting gallery. During this time, handguns were also becoming popular as hunting weapons. Gunsmiths began creating pistols with triggers that could be pulled back to fire a shot without having to hold the weapon up or use a hand lever to do so. This gave shooters an easier way to take down game than using traditional firearms techniques. By 1861, there were more than 100 gunsmiths operating in Gurnee. In 1863, Captain Samuel Colt patented his version of the revolver which became known as the Colt Model 1 Pistol. This weapon was employed by Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War due to its effective firepower and relatively low recoil for such a powerful firearm. After the war ended, many small arms manufacturers began production in Gurnee, including Colt himself (whose company is still active today). In 1865, Congress passed an act authorizing Ulysses S. Grant's administration to purchase large numbers of new rifles from European manufacturers for use by Union forces during the American Civil War (the Act of April 14th). As a result of this law, several firms within Gurnee quickly produced rifles based on European designs such as those made by Adolphus Gibbs at Cutler & Wesson Company and George Stephenson at Stevens & Sons Arms Company Ltd.. These products helped contribute significantly to Union victory over Confederate forces during that conflict (in which around 620,-000 men died). Aftermath: gun trigger history after World War II In 1945, following World War II both America and Great Britain had become nuclear powers with atomic weapons; this created major changes in how people used firearms both domestically and abroad(see Nuclear Weapons ). With these new developments came increased regulation of Firearms across all levels of government( see Gun Control ). Trigger safety became increasingly important as theseweapons began being used more frequently for targetshooting( see Target Shooting ). Consequentlygun trigger history after World War II has been largely negative with many incidents occurringwhere individuals missed potential shots because their fingers didn't reach properly behind them when pulling back on their triggers( see accidental shootings ).

Gurnee is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1837 by General David Dixon and named after Gurney County in England where Dixon had served as a military officer. In 1853, Gurnee became a town and was renamed to Gurnee Township in 1907. The townshipwas consolidated with Kane County on January 1, 1912, and became one unit with a population of 506 when all its independent municipalities were combined into one municipality. The name "Gurnee" then reverted to Township until it was changed back to City on December 12, 1980 pursuant to an act by the Illinois General Assembly (H-3 8/17). The history of this small community can be traced back two hundred years as it has been home to many farmers who have cultivated land hereabouts since early days when there were no railways or highways connecting this area with other parts of the state. For over seventy years now (1920 - present), Gurnee has been known for its quality produce from its local farms and gardens! Gurnee, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Gurnee was founded in 1847 by General George Rogers Clark and his wife Catherine Smith Clark. Gurnee was named after Captain George Washington Gurney who fought in the American Revolution and died at Saratoga Springs, New York on October 13, 1777. The first post office in Gurnee was established on December 3, 1846. The village began to be platted on November 5, 1851 by John W. Holland and Jno Aulden as part of a platting campaign for McLean Township. On May 8, 1852 the village obtained from Mclean Township a deed for all of present-day Gurnee Township together with land east of Harvard Road which had been conveyed to them by Jesse Henson (the father-in-law of Alexander Hamlin), one of the first settlers in that township. The total area acquired by Gurnee from Mclean Township is . In 1861 Jno Crouch built what is now Village Hall on Main Street between West Eisenhower Boulevard and North Ottawa Avenue; it served as the village's first post office until 1893 when an addition to Village Hall led to its current use as an administrative building for the school district which has occupied it since then. In 1865 Fenton Woodruff built what is now Good Friday Baptist Church; it functioned as the church's first meeting house until 1935 when it was replaced by its present structure which still meets that purpose today. In 1889 Julius Caesar Olmsted designed and built what is now Pace University Chapel; it served as both Pace University's college chapel until 1948 when it became home to Northwestern Memorial Hospital while Northwestern Memorial Hospital continued to use Pace University Chapel for other purposes until its closure in 1996.. In 1903 Prentice Mathers donated land north of Academy Drive which he would later develop into Campus Drive and Center Square; this original donation formed Quadrant Park which borders Academy Drive to the south while Campus Drive borders North Roosevelt Boulevard to the north.. In 1916 James Laughlin started construction on his residence complex known as Lakeshore Manor outside of town limits but never completed due to World War I shortages of funds; development resumed following World War II but stopped again following Laughlin's death in 1946.. Lakeshore Manor remains unrenowned apart from having been used occasionally for promotional purposes during various events hosted within or bordering upon Gurneeland since its inception however no plans have yet been put forth to revive this property any time soon given its lack of recent popularity among residents or developers alike

In 1893, the railroad arrived and new settlers poured into the town seeking opportunities for work on the rail line. They built churches and schools and started businesses such as an grocery store and post office. By 1900, Gurnee had become one of the largest villages in Lake County with over 10,000 residents. In 1958, Gurnee became part of Illinois when it became a state capital city; however, it reverted to its original village form two years later. The current Mayor of Gurnee is Lisa Madigan who took office on January 1st, 2014
