It also experienced rapid growth in its population with over 1,000 people living in GurnEE by 1880. A period during World War II saw an increase in manufacturing activity as local companies produced munitions for America's war effort including Pabst Brewing Company (1941), Briggs Manufacturing Co., Inc.(1945), Ford Motor Company(1946) and AM General Tire & Rubber Co.(1948).
