Grayslake is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Grayslake settlement began in 1824 when three farmers named Grays and Taylor purchased from the federal government land southeast of present-day Grayslake on what is now U.S. Route 52. They named their new community afterGray's Ferry on the Fox River which linked Green Bay with Chicago. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 had a population of 586 people living in 53 small homes and 20 stores. In 1835, Grayslake became a village and was incorporated as such under state law by Wm. Jethro Gibbs Sr., one of the original settlers who had come to grayslake from Willoughby Township, Ohio via Hinsdale Road (now Interstate Highway 80). By 1840, Grayslake had an estimated population of 3,000 people and 30 businesses including five taverns licensed by the state Board of Trade. During the American Civil War (1861–1865), Grayslake was used as a staging ground for Union troops moving eastward along I-80 throughDuPage County towardsSpringfield; it also served as an encampment for Confederate troops en route to Springfield from McLean County near Joliette Avenue in West Side Chicago during that period of operations In 1865, following the end of the war and until 1871 when it merged into DuPage County, Grayslake consisted entirely of unincorporated areas east of I-80 between Geneva Road on Lake Michigan shoreline and Skokie Heights on Cook Country side; these areas were annexed by Wheaton in 1971 In 1871–1872, due to local extenuating circumstances surrounding cholera pandemic then raging throughout much of North America (and particularly among European immigrants)Graysake became one of four villages experimentally established within DuPage County as “health villages” – these villages were intended to provide health care services free to residents while providing necessary infrastructure such as sewers and water supplies not available or affordable elsewhere within county boundaries; however due to high rates early on for male cholera patients seeking treatment outside village borders (despite Village Hospital having limitations unable to detain more than 2 per day)the experiments failed quickly before continuing only sporadically thereafter It should be noted that although most residents within village boundaries remained free from infection until their death or quarantine order came from above either throughVillage Hospital Officials or other authorized officials during this time period – many non-residential members within those same villages did become infected subsequent to becoming engaged in open contact with infected individuals or facilities . On December 1st 1913 when all but two buildings within Village limits were destroyed by fire resultant from an overloading engine running out fuel oil at local paper mill operated by La Follette Paper Company; all villagers remaining inside those bounds prior to that date were ordered evacuate without any warning whatsoever – this order remains extant today as part of Village history museum exhibit titled “Building Fires: The History Ofgrayson Lakeside”

Grayslake is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded in 1836 and has been the seat of Grayslake Township since 1868. The population was 12,531 at the 2010 census. The town is located on a small island in the Chicago River and is bordered by Willshire to the north, Dearborn Heights to the east, Skokie to the south, and West Englewood to the west. The first settler in Grayslake was Isaac Lyon. He built a cabin on land that now forms part of Grayslake Township. In 1837, Samuel Hubbard established Hubbard's Ferry across the river from what is now Grayslake Township. Hubbard's Ferry became an important transportation artery for settlers in northwestern Cook County. In 1838, John Pritchard settled on land between present-day Grayslake and Dearborn Heights. Pritchard developed a farm that still stands today near modern day Skokie Boulevard and Western Avenue. By 1840, there were 10 families living in Grayslake Township with 9 farms and 2 stores
