The history of gun magazines in Grayslake, Illinois began with the development of the first magazine-fed firearms by George Armstrong Custer. The first magazine-fed rifle was built by Custer and mounted on a horse named Old faithful in 1879. The firearm was called the "Custer Rifle", and it was used to protect settlers from raiders during the Oregon Trail. After Custer's death, his contributions to the Firearms Industry were memorialized with a plaque at Fort Riley, Kansas. The plaque reads: "In memory of George Armstrong Custer, who fought in America's civil war as an officer of Company K, Seventh Cavalry." During World War II, Grayslake became home to a munitions plant that produced ammunition for both Nazi Germany and Japan. After the war ended, Grayslake transitioned into a manufacturing center for firearms and ammunition products. In 1957, Grayslake became home to its current gun magazine industry when Armoury Publications Incorporated opened its doors. Today, Armoury Publications is one of the largest printers of magazines in North America. There are many different types of magazines that are used in firearms. Bullets go into a magazine and are reloaded by jamming the rounds back into the magazine and pushing them out again. Magazines can hold up to 20 rounds. A typical rifle or shotgun holds six rounds in each magazine, so for a total of 36 rounds. A revolver typically has only four rounds in its cylinder which means it can't be reloaded with a clip like a rifles or shotguns do. To reload your revolver, you have to take the next round out of the cylinder and insert it into another chamber on your gun, then push the old round back in and cock it to load it. This is done by pulling the hammer back until it goes "click" and then releasing it again.

Grayslake is a small town in the east side of Illinois, about 20 miles southwest of Chicago. The population was 9,681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Grayslake was organized on April 1, 1868, from parts of neighboring towns Woodridge and Bloomingdale. At first it consisted only of a few homes and businesses. By 1870 the village had grown to include 684 households, 45 churches (of which three were Episcopal), 15 schools (four public and thirteen private), a post office, and two hotels. The village took its name from Gray's Lake which lay near it on the north side of present day Grayslake Boulevard. The first settler in what is now Grayslake was Samuel Haggerty who arrived in 1847 as part of the Iowa Inland Transportation Company's land grant to residents along I-88 corridor between Rock Island and Cedar Rapids. A year later John Sibley arrived with his family from Winnetka Heights and platted his home lot on what is now southbound I-88 just north of where Grayslake Boulevard meets Elmhurst Road today. In 1872 David Brown erected a log cabin on what is now eastbound I-88 just south of where Grayslake Boulevard meets Elmhurst Road today for himself and his wife Margaret (née Wright). Mr. Brown became an important factor in early development in Grayslake as he donated land for school buildings, churches, businesses and more importantly for traffic connection between these villages by building a road connecting them all – one that still exists to this day! A little more than one decade later another pioneer entered into town life when Elijah Smith bought 160 acres adjacent to present day Main Street from George Bakewell for $5 per acre! This property would become known as “The Kitchen” after Smith’s farmstead located there until 1917 when it became part ofthe Village limits! It should be noted that while some properties within the current boundaries date back many years before Grayslake truly formed as an independent municipality… such initial purchases/acquisitions reflect quite clearly graying/peeling away at old Indian Creek Township territory eastward towards Decatur County during those early days following Prairie du Chien settlement!! What we have today are matters much older &Much more ancient still:grains stored hereabouts since long before any white people set foot upon these lands!!

The village was founded in 1853 by Captain John Grays and his wife Esther. Grayslake was named for General George Washington Grays, who died during the American Revolution at the Battle of Princeton. The original graying trees in town were planted to commemorate this event. Grayslake has a rich history dating back to when it was first settled as a small frontier post on the Streator River by early pioneers from New England and Germany. In 1853, Captain John Grays and his wife Esther set up shop here, selling goods such as flour, bacon, butter and eggs from their wagon-road store which they built on current site of City Hall (now First National Bank). In 1855, Grayslake became one of the townships in Cook County when it was organized out of sections of Aurora Township with a population of about 350 settlers. At that time there were only three villages within Cook County: Aurora (northwest), Palatine (southwest) and Plainfield (east). By 1860 there had grown to be more than 1,000 residents living in Grayslake proper; along with many farms stretching into what is now northern Kane County between Aurora and Palatine townships. With its central business district located near downtown’s Exchange Place Shopping Center – home to banks including Sears & Roebuck & Co., JCPenney & Co., Macy’s Stores Inc., Kmart Corporation and Wells Fargo – Grayslake quickly became an important industrial center within Cook County during this time period but also experienced some significant social changes over time including becoming increasingly gay-friendly beginning in the late 1960s before eventually becoming straight again following repeal of gay marriage laws throughout most Illinois starting around 1990/91 as a result of pressure brought on then-Governor Pat Quinn by then- Mayor Richard Moseley Sr.. In 1949, a Ford dealership moved to Grayslake from Aurora and became one of the largest dealerships in Illinois until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1951, President Harry S Truman visitedGrayslake during his campaign for president and hosted a dinner at the home of Mrs Truman and her husband Jay Douglas Truman II (1896-1972). In 1957-1958, Grayslake was host to "The America Show." This show featured American celebrities live on stage with local reporters from around the city following their every move
