Grayslake is a town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,569 at the 2010 census. Grayslake is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was organized on October 1, 1872 by a group of farmers who had recently arrived from Indiana. The name "Gray's Lake" was chosen to honor Colonel James Gray (1792-1871), a U.S. Army officer and pioneer in the area. The first permanent settler in Grayslake was Captain John Wirths who purchased land east of present day Grayslake Road on the remains of an old cabin from the Kovacs family in 1873. A post office called Gray's Lake was established in 1875, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1951. Grayslake Township was organized on November 3, 1899 under the jurisdiction of Cook County; it merged with McHenry County on January 1, 1907 to form this current township. On May 2, 1905 there were 886 people living in Grayslake when prohibition began operations; by 1920 there were only 319 residents remaining due to prohibition efforts and high prices for alcohol which kept most people out of town during prohibition years (see1920 US Census). In 1923 GraysLake became home to what is now known as "The White House". This large building served as the country's first successful drug rehabilitation program providing treatment for users of heroin and other narcotics before they could be sold or used again. It operated until 1984 when it closed due to legal restrictions on drug rehabilitation programs located near schools after crack cocaine became available in Illinois . According to the 2000 census, GraysLake has 11,569 residents making it one of Northern McHenry County’s smaller towns with a population size that still qualifies as “white working class” despite its recent influx of Hispanic families and night workers since manufacturing jobs disappeared during NAFTA 1990-2000%. Unemployment rates are also quite high relative to surrounding suburbs such as Elgin Heights/Naper Paulownia where unemployment rates have decreased over time while wages have continued ascent thanks largely to new businesses founded by Hispanics or their children which are research Triangle Park company towns anchored around technology companies that have brought steady job growth into these communities although they continue experience some social strife caused by waves of low skilled immigrants coming through unsponsored unaccompanied

Grayslake is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,314 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Grayslake began as a small community on the banks of the Kedzie River and grew rapidly during the late 19th century as it became one of several villages built around Chicago to house workers who built the city's infrastructure. The village had its own school system, library, post office, and fire department until 1915 when it merged with other villages in Cook County to form Grayslake Village. In 1925, Grayslake Village was annexed by the City of Chicago. Grayslake has experienced rapid growth since then and now boasts over 20 square miles (50 km2) of residential development including various high-rise towers and an upscale shopping mall complete with large movie theater chains like Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres. It also has a variety of businesses associated with healthcare and technology such as Scripps Health Hospital which opened in 2004 and AddisonHealth which opened in 2011. Additionally, there are several restaurants including two Michelin starred restaurants - Benaroya Hall (now closed) located inside an old mill along Kedzie River bank that once served as a gristmill for local farmers dating back to 1847 and Park Tavern located just outside downtown on Michigan Avenue across from Millennium Park/Chicago's first major park - both open to the public for dinner nightly from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. There are also several smaller bars/cafes/restaurants throughout town serving up American cuisine or international cuisine depending on what's available at that particular moment or season; all featuring live music most evenings except Sundays when all these venues close early for worship services at nearby churches…the list goes on!
The city of Grayslake was founded in 1854 by John and Mary Griggs. The town grew quickly, and by 1875 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916, Grayslake became the first city in Illinois to be incorporated as a suburb of Chicago. Griggs descendants continue to live in Grayslake today.
