In addition, handguns could also be reloaded quickly so they were not vulnerable to being shot by an attacker who may only have been Rangericted on his/her firearm (i.e., someone who did not own one). One of the most famous Granite City citizens who used handguns for self-defense was Joseph Pulitzer Jr.. Pulitzer Sr., owner of both The New York World Telegram and The Chicago Herald Tribune newspapers), is credited with starting pistols as a means of protection during Newspaper Company strikes back in 1892

By 1850 Granite City had over 20 stores including two grocery stores and four tanneries along 6th Street between Main Street and Douglas Avenue;[1] the city had seen rapid growth since its founding although some residents objected to this level of business development due to their belief that graniteness should not be associated with concentrations of poverty or low productivity.[2][3] In 1865 Abraham Lincoln became president after being elected as an insurgent candidate during the Civil War; he called for increased infrastructure investment across the United States but particularly in railways such as those connecting Springfield with Chicago through Indiana (now Chicago), allowing goods produced outside these states into marketplaces throughout Ohio without having to go through Pennsylvania or Kentucky where prices were too high or transportation costs were prohibitively expensive both for producers and consumers alike.[4][5] This plan was known as Butterfield’s System after American politician James K. Polk who promoted it preceding Lincoln’s presidency. In 1865 Graniteness began becoming associated with wealth when mining magnate Samuel Insull donated $10 million dollars towards new railroads throughout Midwest United States; this money would later help finance many technological advances such as motion pictures,[6][7] radios[8] automobiles[9][10] skyscrapers[11]and insulin
