Granite City, Illinois is a city located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 23,715 at the 2010 census. Granite City is the second-largest city in Kane County after Chicago. It is also the county seat of Kane County. The first gun sights were set up by John Fetterman and Daniel Winchester in 1836 on a bluff overlooking the Des Plaines River. In 1839, Gideon Welles began erecting his well-known rifle sights west of town on State Street between West Magnolia and East Irving streets. Granite City, Illinois is a small city located in the Central Illinois region of the United States. The population was 5,282 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Quad Cities Metropolitan Statistical Area. Granite City has a humid subtropical climate and experiences very warm summers with average temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius and mild winters with lows around 10 degrees Celsius. The city's location and history make it a major transportation center for central Illinois, as well as for trade between Iowa and Indiana. The first settlers to Granite City were farmers from Wisconsin who arrived in 1847. By 1860, there were over 100 businesses in Granite City. In 1871, an act was passed that required all businesses within 1 mile of each other to be registered with the town board. This act helped start Granite City's rapid growth and development which continued until 1971 when it became a member of the Quad Cities metropolitan area. Today, Granite City is home to many businesses including several large banks and health care providers as well as smaller businesses such as restaurants, hotels, KFC restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies etc.; making it one of the most vibrant cities in central Illinois! The city also hosts many events throughout the year including outdoor concerts during summer months and festivals throughout fall/winter months; making it an perfect place to live or visit!
Gun sights have a long and varied history. The earliest sighting system for firearms was a crossbow with an aiming tube and reticle that could be seen through the bore of the bow. By the early 16th century, there were sighting systems for handguns and rifles that used graduated rings or pointers to indicate range. In 1795, Major Pierre-Simon Laplace developed a system using circles that allowed shooters to aim at distances up to 100 yards. This system was later refined by Captain John Boyd in 1822, who created a sight known as the Boyd’s Crossfire Sight which can be seen on many modern pistols. The first practical handgun sights were designed by George Weisgerber in 1847 and patented in 1849. These sights consisted of two circles or horns set at right angles to each other, with the center circle being slightly higher than either side of the objective lens. The objective lens was positioned so that it could be seen from any position within 10 feet of the gun when aimed at 100 yards (10 meters). Weisgerber’s original design was abandoned due to problems with accuracy and cost overruns; however, his concept remains one of the most basic handgun sights still in use today. By 1870, handguns had become so common that rifle manufacturers began producing sight systems specifically for handguns. One such company was Adolphus Busch who produced a sight called the “Busch Ring Marker” which featured five concentric circles machined into a metal ring around an axis extending from front to back of barrel (see photo). This sight allowed shooters to hit targets out TO THE RIGHT OF THE BUSCH RING MARKER! By 1904, all major rifle manufacturers had produced sight systems specifically for handguns, making them much easier and more accurate than ever before to use while hunting or target shooting.
There is no definitive answer to this question, as the history of gun sights has been quite diverse and complex. Some of the earliest sighting devices used on firearms were simple reflex sights, which looked straight ahead and allowed shooters to target their shots by sightING them. These early sighting devices were often made from solid wood or metal, and required a fair amount of practice in order to use them effectively. In the mid 1800s, advances in telegraphy led to the development of guns that could be fired using Morse code signals instead of traditional firearm commands. This technology allowed for guns to be fitted with TNT or other explosives inside of them in order to explode when fired, which increased accuracy and range tremendously. As technology continued to evolve, so too did gun sights – until now, they play an integral role in every firearm user’s arsenal!

The town was named after granite rocks that were found near the town. In 1860, the Granites built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. They also built a school and store in 1864. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its natural resources, including coal, limestone, iron ore, and sandstone. By 1920, Granite City had a population of 1,500 people. However, it declined during World War II because of lack of war production opportunities in Illinois. Granite City officially re-established itself as a community in 1984. Today, it has an estimated population of around 100 people
