Additionally, injuries caused by electric shock do not heal as quickly as those caused by physical injury such as gunshots or knives; therefore there is potential for long-term damage should someone use a tranquilizer device on another person without proper medical attention under conditions where electrical shock could occur

Whether using electroshock guns or high-voltage current through electrodes placed directly onto skin, these devices have been shown capable of stunning individuals for extended periods of time while minimizing any potential risks accompanying their usage (such as electric shock).

In response to multiple public complaints about tasers, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit in 2006 against the manufacturer, SHARP Corporation. The suit alleged that tasers constitute an unconstitutional use of force and violated the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution. The lawsuit was successful and led to SHARP reform its policies on using tasers.
