In 2002-2003 there were several controversies surrounding changes to zoning ordinances which would have allowed greater commercial development within the city limits without good public input or environmental review; these ordinances were repealed after public outcry from citizens and Mayor Dan Patch’s support for them during his final term as Mayor Additionally during this time period other controversial changes were made to City Hall including raising ceilings due to asbestos exposure (an issue that still exists today) elimination of parking meters and conversion of all streetlights into LED lights making it easier for drivers to see at night In addition several billboards went up around town advertising Patch’s campaign promises such as free Verizon wireless service for everyone living within city limits Finally in 2003-2004 two fires broke out near City Hall resulting in $5K damage done to building These events led to increased pressure on Mayor Patches office which he eventually resigned from following his election victory over challenger Matt Beatty

They started a small farm and bought land around their cabin to ranch with their cows, horses, pigs, and chickens. In 1839 they erected a six-sided log courthouse which served as the community's law court for many years. The first school in Godfrey was organized in 1853 by Mrs. Ann Beeston. Mrs. Beeston taught reading, writing, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, history, religion, and domestic sciences to children from lowfamilies in the village until 1861 when she retired from teaching at age 70 years old. She later became headmistress of a nearby girls' school which opened its doors in 1865. In 1857 two brothers purchased 160 acres of land north of Godfrey on State Highway 6 for $5 per acre with plans to build a town thereon that would please both farmers and consumers alike. When construction began on the town site it became apparent that this plan was too ambitious for success so within two years they sold all their property except for 10 acres back east where they established an agricultural colony called "Northeast." This new settlement failed however because it lacked enough people who could live sustainably off agriculture while also enjoying close access to markets (Ferguson says "the only thing Northeast accomplished was providing employment for some local residents"). Within five years all traces of Northeast have vanished into history leaving little legacy other than memories among those living nearby about that time- era's most unsuccessful attempt at development." "Although no longer extant it is possible to imagine what might have been if these Brothers had succeeded in building something unique or even innovative in terms of American townsfolk’s aspirations during this period... At best their venture seemed doomed from the start; but as things turned out (and unfortunately often happens), even failures can lead to innovation if implemented creatively."
