After the war, many jobs dried up as production moved to nearby cities such asChicago or Indianapolis. However, during this time there were some major changes for Godfrey as well: First, there was a population boom due to immigration from Hungary and other parts of Europe; secondly, transportation improved so that people could get around more easily; finally, farmers turned to sugar cane farming which helped support the economy during this time. In 1925-26, local farmers decided to try growing corn instead of sugar cane because it grew better on land that wasn’t always fertile. This change led to an increase in employment at the local mills but also made it harder for people who depended on subsistence agriculture to survive financially. As farming changed hands over time and prices went down due to drought or other problems facing rural America, many residents began moving away from Godfrey into larger towns or cities in search of opportunities more typical of those times outside of Illinois’s agricultural heartland (the Midwest). However, despite these challenges most residents stuck around until after World War II when they lost touch with their community again thanks largely to Interstate Highway travel and suburbanization within Illinois itself (though some did move back into Godfrey after World War II). Today remnants of what once were Godfrey’s sleeping citizens can be found scattered throughout its neighboring townships – including Albion Prairie (near Albion Mills), Hollandale (just east of downtown), Davenport Heights (northwest of downtown), Fentonville (southwest corner near Willard Airport) – while less visible reminders remain today at key points along I-294 where formerly main streets crossed over railroad tracks indicative once again not onlyof how close things once were but alsohow integrated American life now has become acrossstate lines since then .
