The new station consisted of two platforms with tracks running along either side of an intersection near present day renamed Prairie View Avenue and First Street. By 1889, when GlenVIEW was incorporated as a city within Cook County – one year after Chicago – its population had increased to over 100 people due to waves of immigrants coming into Chicago during the late 19th century: Irish Catholics came first; German Protestants followed soon afterward; Italian Americans followed also before World War I stopped many plans for immigration altogether; African American residents lived here until well into the 1960s. One reason why so much growth took place in Glendale during this time was because transportation methods had not yet completely changed following Railroads' construction: steamboats still played an important role downstream while sailing vessels such as ferries transported goods upriver inland until railroads arrived with their own boats/trains which allowed them to do more transportation than ever before without having to navigate tricky waterways full of rapids and dangerous bends! Finally automobiles became available starting around 1900 which helped make suburbia accessible even farther out from downtown Chicagoland thanks to expressways like I-90/I-94 etc... Glenview was settled in 1837 by a group of farmers from the town of Clear Lake. The original village site was on the east side of Illinois Route 20, about six miles southwest of what is now Glenview. The name “Glenview” originated with a survey made in 1839 by General David Dixon as part of his efforts to determine the location for a new post office. The name likely referred to the glen near Byers Ferry on the west side of the river. The first store opened in 1840 and over time became one of the most important economic engines in Glenview. In addition to its retail function, Glenview also acted as a transportation hub for goods arriving from nearby towns and villages. One such activity was bringing passengers and freight upriver on horse-drawn wagons to be unloaded at Byers Ferry before being transported back downriver to Chicago or other points inland. By 1860, when Glenview reached its peak as an agricultural community, there were more than 100 homes and businesses in operation. Over time, however, many residents began moving away for various reasons including advances in transportation and better opportunities elsewhere.
