Beardsley decided to build a large mansion there which he called "The Castle" after nearby Carbondale Castle which he also built. He used much of this money to help finance social programs that helped low income residents get education and improve their lives such as job training and health services outside their homes or through charitable organizations like Tuskegee Institute which then served as a model for many similar institutions throughout America during its heyday from 1930 until 1965 amidst budget cuts during President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society policies designed largely targeted at Appalachians who were then disfranchised nationally following passage of legislation implementing Brown v Board Of Education decision desegregating American schools).
