Glenview, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The towns of Winnetka and Plainfield are adjacent to Glenview on its north side. The first settlers in what is now Glenview were Methodist ministers who arrived from Kentucky in 1837. In 1845, a school was established and then moved to the current site in 1860. The first post office was established there on March 5, 1861. By 1865, when it became a municipality, there were over 100 residents living in small lots near the village square with an estimated total value of $624 worth of property (in 2016). Glenview had one store until 1840 and no schools until 1865. In 1871 the first railroad station was built northwest of town; by 1915 it had been replaced by a modern building that still stands today. A high school opened in 1916 and Glenview Township High School closed in 1984; it reopened asplainfield-glenview cooperation high school (now Plainfield-Hoffman) in 1990 before finally shutting down again in 2002 due to budget cuts.
