Glenview is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. Glenview is located east of Chicago on the border of DuPage and Kane counties. It is bordered to the north by Aurora and to the east by Lombard. The first settler in what became Glenview was George Haggerty who arrived in 1837. He named his new land "Haggerty Township" after himself and donated part of it to the city of Chicago as private property. A year later, Haggerty's son-in-law John Cushing came overland from Michigan with his family and purchased additional land that would become Glenview Township including present day blocks 1 through 5 and 7 through 11 on Fenton Road (now Pembroke Road). In 1841, when Chicago was founded, Haggerty donated another tract of land to the city for use as a public square. The site now occupied by Community College Park was one of these parcels donated by Haggerty. In 1875, developer Amos Cobb bought some of Hagerty's original farm land which he turned into a sugar plantation known as Lighthouse Point sugar factory (later renamed First National Sugar Company). After being acquired by Abbott Laboratories in 1939, Lighthouse Point closed its doors for good in 1955. Glenview first began receiving mail service from Galena village on December 9th 1881 when postmaster Wm Muhlenberg wired home instructions for delivery via wagon from Galena to "the lot hereabouts". When this service ended on July 15th 1889 due to low ridership rates, mail deliveries were re-established using wagons between Galena and Glenview utilizing a circuitous route that took them around Indian Hill near where Deerfield now stands. On October 2nd 1895 local citizens staged a peaceful demonstration against high water levels at White Marsh Lake caused by heavy rainfall washing away bridges connectingGalena with Elmhurst Village; resulting in five arrests without injuries occurred during this event dubbed "The Great Lakes Watershed Protest". Settlement started slowly with just 10 families arriving until 1901 when lumber interests began arrive looking for forested hills while also building up their holdings around what would become downtown Glendale then called Iroquois Park which included most if not all modern driveways found today including Race Street which runs along current Eisenhower Avenue NW before intersecting IL Route 66 just past current Ives Drive NE) . By 1910 there were already 150 people living within Glendale limits while 100 more lived scattered throughout suburban Cook County beyond Aurora/Lombard boundaries according to census records kept at various locations across Cook County starting with one location near Geneva off Mayfair Road oppositecurrent Mark Twain Museum across Ives Drive Northeast) . One example of how pioneer settlements developed can be seen today along race street between glendaleerville streetcar stoplight and Deering School District lines just past currentLake View subdivision line ) . Farmlands became less valuable over time leading some farmers sell their holdings outright rather than keep them within rural areas ; causing much farmland bordering Joliette township (west side), Arlington Heights township (north side), Skokie Township (south side), Goodyear Township (east side) & Streamwood Township (northern edge) becoming defunct ). According to 2000 census data , there remained just under 600 residents living within Glendale limits while 1120 residents resided outside its boundaries making it one ofieth most populous townships in Illinois .)
